The Hairport

It was such a good experience. My barber was a guy and he was great. His scissors were so so so sharp. They have someone that comes in and sharpens the scissors that makes them really sharp. I am absolutely going back to this place again.

Didn't turn out terribly, but could probably have gotten a better cut at Cost Cutters for cheaper. Ended up much shorter than I wanted and the layers are super uneven and sloppy, though it's not too noticeable when my hair is parted. The barber didn't seem super confident about what he was doing which made me nervous. Kept asking me specific questions about how I wanted my hair that seemed like pretty common sense things that he should have been able to figure out without my input.

I’ve been going to Erin for about three years. Always a great cut and style, and she gives excellent travel tips too. And the price can’t be beat. Highly recommend.

Best cut ever!

I have been going to this upscale establishment. Years ago when I worked in the neighborhood and started to get shaggy in the wig, I found a shop. My coworkers would take lunch to go get their hair cut. It was hot, someone else was grabbing paperwork and I walked over. By chance there was an opening. The Hairport did not dissapoint. Year 15 Make an appointment, heed my words!

Consistently impressed with the price, service, speed, and availability. It only took one visit for Hairport to become my sole barber. The atmosphere is clean, simple, and basic. Popular magazines adorn the waiting area coffee table, and a modern flat-screen TV is mounted on the wall, affixed in the corner for visibility around the room. Daytime talk programs or local news intersperses with sporadic conversation, its frequency dependent on the familiarity of the current customers with the establishment. Conversation can vary from quiet to lively. I am usually able to call in and schedule an appointment for the next business day, although walk-ins will often find an open chair at least within the same day, if not within the hour. I have no preference as to who cuts my hair, as every staff member here has an equal level of expertise and professionalism. Despite having long, thick, curly hair, I'm generally out the door and on with my day in 20 minutes, allowing me to schedule appointments before work without worrying about compromising punctuality. Despite possessing unrivaled service and flexibility, Hairport is by far the most affordable hairdresser in the area, charging only $22 for a typical men's haircut. This paltry sum includes complimentary tonic and massage, a service other more *corporate* joints consider a rather pricy premium. I always tip around 100% because I feel as though the service I'm provided (which itself never strays even close to "bare minimum") deserves much more than the bare minimum payment. I have often struggled to find even competent hairstylists, which has often led me to forgoing haircuts for years at a time. Hairport has changed the way I approach cutting my hair, and I will continue to use them exclusively for as long as I am in Iowa City. My recommendation of this business is unqualified.
