New Style Salon

I can’t say enough good things about this salon. I found my barber, Melinde, here back in 2023, and she’s been amazing ever since. She’s top-notch, not only incredibly skilled, but also thoughtful in suggesting what styles will work best for you. She takes the time to share her professional opinion, and once you get comfortable with her, she will even accommodate you on short notice. That’s how much I trust her that I have traveled all the way from Indiana for a haircut, even after graduating, just to have her work on my hair. The owner is also very warm and welcoming. Every time he sees you, he greets you like an old friend, which makes the whole experience even better. This place isn’t just about a haircut, it’s about the care, professionalism, and genuine friendliness that make you want to keep coming back.

The absolute worst haircut I've ever had in my life. I came in on time for my appointment but the woman (I believe her name was Anna) was still busy with her client, and asked me if I was okay with waiting. I said no problem, and I waited for a while but I noticed she wasn't cutting the clients hair, she just kept walking aroundand d talking to various staff members and dissappearing in the back. I ended up waiting over an hour until she reappeared and her previous client said she wanted someone else to fix her hair, that should have been all I needed to realize I should leave. She gets me into the chair and asks what I wanted and I told her I wanted a trim, about 4 inches and to layer my bangs and the sides of my hair. I had hair to my shoulders mind you, and after she was finished I was left with a symmetrical bowl cut up to my ears with no layering and somehow the back was shorter than the sides and my bangs. While she was cutting my hair she was telling me that the previous client was being difficult and didn't know what she wanted, then she proceeds to also tell me she doesn't know how to cut womens hair as her coworker was working on fixing the womans hair. While she was using the scissors she kept tugging and pulling on them and pulled several hairs painfully out of my head, while my hair was bone dry. I could tell halfway through my haircut as soon as she cut basically all the length off the back that I was going to need it fixed but I just wanted to get the hell out of there at this point. She was so distracted with her previous client getting corrected by someone else that she just was not present mentally. She kept looking over to her and making comments about her too me and it was just really inappropriate. I'd love to talk to the manager, I have before and after pictures for you to prove it. I had to go somewhere else to get my hair fixed. It took me two years to grow my hair out and now it's literally all gone. The guy who fixed my hair said she shouldn't be in the business. Terrible experience

Best salon in East Lansing. Stylists are so kind and professional. I recommended this business to all of my friends. I have never had a bad haircut through the 10+ times I have been to New Style. I always love seeing Teddy the dog!

I absolutely LOVE this salon! The owner, David, is so friendly and accommodating for all clients. My hair stylist, Liz, is the single most upbeat and beautiful person ever! She takes extra care with my long, thick hair and always asks me for my preferences. I've let her have fun with my hair numerous times and she ALWAYS leaves me feeling beautiful, flawless, and confident with my hair!! Cannot rave enough!

I was in town for the weekend, walked by, and decided to get a haircut. They were so very accommodating, getting me seated right away with Emma. She was lovely, listened thoughtfully to everything I asked for, and delivered with a great haircut I felt great about! Plus, I just loved the vibe, the camaraderie, and conversation in the place. I may just schedule visits to my niece at #MSU around my hair needs!

I have been to many hair salons in my life, and this is by far the best. My stylist, the owner, David, is a miracle worker. He hi lites, colors and cuts my hair, and I get many compliments about it. David is also a wonderful person. The staff as a whole is thoughtful and caring, and they are all talented stylists. The salon is comfortable, and I enjoy being there.
