Alex Barnes did a WONDERFUL job at bleaching and cutting my black hair. I wanted a wolfcut with the lightest blonde color I can achieve with some previous color on my ends. She did a beautiful job at explaining all my color and cut options from the beginning and guided me through the whole 3-4 hour process. Although I knew my ends may not lighten the same color as my virgin roots due to previous color on them, Alex and I didn't anticipate how beautiful the pinker ends blended well into my blonde which she created with a round of bleach and toner. The wolfcut and curtain bangs tied up the look very well at the end and I feel so cool and cute with my new hair. Thank you Alex.

I can’t believe I’m writing a review, but I had to. My experience at Thomas West was an absolute 10/10. Everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming. I’ve tried many hair salons in Chicago and often felt out of place, but Thomas West was truly different. Everyone was so nice and actually cared about how your day was going! They LISTENED!! They really listened to my concerns and understood my goals, especially since I’m prepping my hair for my wedding. I want my hair to look its absolute best, and they got it. I saw Alex, and she was wonderful, great conversation and, most importantly, she truly knows how to cut curly hair. As a curly girl, it’s hard to explain how anxious it can be finding someone who can make your hair look amazing both curly and straight. Alex has that skill. I’ll absolutely be back to see her, and I can’t recommend her (and Thomas West) enough.

Blake did such an amazing job! His technique and attention to detail are truly hair magic. I’ve been coming here for about four years, and I’ve never been disappointed. Every visit, we come up with new ideas and recommendations together haircuts or highlights style, and my hair always ends up looking fresh and different—like a brand-new canvas each time. I constantly get compliments on my hair, and it’s all thanks to Blake’s dedication, patience, and passion for what he does. You can really feel the care he puts into his work. I highly recommend Blake as a hairstylist to anyone trying to decide where to book. You won’t be disappointed!

Amazing! Absolutely loved today’s service. The whole team and the ownership of this salon are incredibly sweet and very attentive. My stylist did a great job and was super quick also. Definitely recommend!

PLEASE IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE IN THIS REVIEW: BOOK THE APPOINTMENT. I'll be perfectly honest with y'all... I've had 3 hairstylists in my adult life. I'm a loyal (and anxious) 6-8 week appointment type of girlie. So when I moved to Chicago from Nashville in June of 2024? I was still traveling back to Nashville to see my stylist. As life would have it, I haven't been able to go back for a cut since January of 2025. I was so nervous to find another stylist that I went an ENTIRE YEAR without one (champagne problems I know). Thankfully, my Chicago girl gang entered the chat & convinced me to make an appointment with their go-to person at Thomas West Salon: Tayler. Stunning Salon & easy to get to location aside? Tayler immediately made me feel comfortable about my fear of receiving a haircut that makes me look like my mom (haha) and my embarrassment over having so much dry shampoo in my hair that I may have been flammable. Tayler delivered a 10/10 cut & blowout with little to no direction, I will dream about the scalp massage he gave me at the sink, and we spent the entirety of the appointment chatting like old friends. As someone who works in a service related industry? I genuinely appreciate Tayler's ease and expertise. I also had the pleasure of chatting with Thomas himself while checking out, and I'm so impressed that an owner is so hands on after decades of being open. Y'all are truly wonderful and I can't wait for my next appointment. THANK YOU!

Love this salon! Alex is the best - she’s been cutting my hair for the past year and always does a fantastic job. Followed her to Thomas West from another salon and will go out of my way to keep her! I also enjoy the gorgeous views of the river while getting my hair done.

I've been coming here for years now but finally felt compelled to write a review after getting my hair cut and colored today with the fabulous Allen for the first time. I was in one of those funks where my current hair cut and color just wasn't doing it for me anymore - we all know that feeling - and he was a great listener while I hemmed and hawed for a few minutes about the various options I was considering. I then decided to ask him what HIS professional guidance was regarding what would work best for my face/hair, put my trust in him, and am so glad that I did. I'm so happy with the cut and color! He did an awesome job and was also so kind and lovely to work with. So glad you moved to Chicago, Allen!
