The Worst Haircut of My Life I was so excited to have found my go-to salon in Chicago. I went to Lo Merritt twice, and from the first time, I found flaws in the cut. But I was understanding because both the salon and Lo were very nice, so I decided to give it a second chance, thinking maybe it needed to be adapted to my hair type. But the second time turned out much worse than the first (photos attached). I understand that sometimes layers are necessary for certain hair types, but they should be intentional, creating harmony and a better shape in the cut, not the opposite! This time, I explained that I've been wearing my hair straight, so I wanted a cut that would look good even when straight. Before leaving the salon, I noticed some longer strands, which Lo did correct at the time so It looked ok at first. When I got home I decided to straighten it out only to find out the reality of the cut. The layers were very poorly and unevenly cut. The layers literally look like a series of random cuts made by a toddler. It looks like my hair was bit by a donkey!!! Now I'm furious and frustrated because the result is nothing like what you'd expect from a $100+ haircut from a stylist of Lo's supposed level. Everyone was kind overall service was great. But I literally cried when I saw my haircut on its straight side.

I had a model slot with Sofie, one of the new talents, and she did such an amazing job with my hair! She was so kind and made my hair feel really healthy. I love how she cut my layers. Overall, I had great experience!!

I was a model for Hannah. She did my curly cut. I loved how she took her time to listen to me. She asked me questions about what I like about my hair and gave me a good techniques and product info to maintain the style in my hair! Love the salon! Vibes are always great! Can't wait to come back!

I was visting Chicago for a few days before attending an important event and needed to get my hair cut and highlights refreshed. I had read some excellent reviews about Sine Qua Non so booked an appointment. Stacia was my stylist and she did an amazing job. The cut was just as I like it and the highlights were perfect. Stacia was so gentle with my hair and scalp too. If you have a tender scalp and/or want a fantastic cut & colour, I can highly recommend Stacia.

Wonderful service and beautiful results! My appointments with Ashley Franco are always a blast and I leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. I’ll definitely be coming back for my next appointment.

Love love love Monet @ Sine Qua Non in Lakeview! I moved here from PA after being loyal to the same salon for 10+ years, and was so stoked to find someone like Monet that really understood what I wanted out of my haircut. Definitely my regular spot now. Would highly recommend to other queer / trans folks as well, very friendly place with staff that really knows what they’re doing 🙂
