I'm from Houston and my stylist has been cutting my hair for over 18 years. So when I moved to Austin, I've tried many hair salons and haven't found one that I could call "my" stylist...until now. I was introduced to Studio Tilee through a friend who always had great hair and there I met with Laura. Some things you should know: It use to be her and her sister, but her sister has moved to California and is only available for events/weddings. And while they are currently working out of a co-working spaced called "Studio Cuts," quality and service is not compromised. The only downside that is it's tough to get someone on the phone, but their online booking engine takes care of that. Now for the positives, Laura is really skilled at what she does. What I appreciate the most is that she really takes the time to listen to you and will tell you based off your face shape, hair, etc. what would work and will provide different ideas based off your regular hair regime. She's also very sweet! We spent the entire time talking and laughing, and that was when I FIRST met her. Definitely recommend her and will be going back.
Laura is amazing! I have gone here for the past year and a half - and I always love my hair when I leave! Laura is so personable, but she also spends a lot of time listening to your input and really understands WHAT you want to do with your hair. The sisters are SO nice and welcoming and I love this place!!!
Laura is meticulous and talented. Does a great job styling my hair, as well as being super friendly and warm. And her prices are very reasonable. Be warned, you have to book far in advance! She fills up quickly.
When I moved to Austin in 2010, I was fortunate to find Studio Tilee through a recommendation from a friend. Initially, I was Tiffany's client and now go to Laura after Tiffany married and moved her primary home to California. Both are simply fantastic! Besides being talented, the two sisters are welcoming and fun. I have recently moved to Houston for business reasons. However, I continue to travel to Austin for all my cuts. As long as I have enough hair to cut, only Laura or Tiffany will do the cuttin' 😉
I did my haircut there and am very satisfied about my hairstyle. Laura is awesome. She discussed with me to understand what style I want and then gave me her feedback. Highly recommend popele who are seeking for a place specialized in Asian haircut 🙂
Looking at their photos, I thought to myself, "wow have i finally found a salon in austin that can color asian hair correctly?" I decided to give them a try and i completely regret it. DO NOT COME HERE. It is probably one of the worst places I've been too. I have been to several salons as well as color my own hair and my friends hair. (not with box-dyes. I actually use the techniques at hair salons). I am not a licensed professional but I do know a lot more about coloring hair than the average joe. I came in with shoulder length hair. It was virgin black hair with blonde tips. I came for a consultation before the actual appointment. I spoke to Laura and asked if she could match my current hair to the extensions. I know color matching is a difficult job but Laura assured me that she could do it. I am so glad Tiffany (the other owner) was there. If she wasn't there I probably would have worse hair now. Even though Laura has been to beauty school she lacks experience. If Tiffany was not beside her offering her advice on what to do...I don't even want to think about what would happen. Several times I heard Tiffany ask her what are you doing. At that point I was starting to get concerned. During the appointment Laura talked about how she was trying to give one of her clients gray hair and turned their hair blue and then needed to strip the color out. She admitted that she does not know what she's doing and experiments on her clients hair and learns from that. My previous salon used mannequin hair to experiment not real clients. Right then I knew that Laura lacked enough experience to do my hair correctly. Too bad I was already 4 hours into the appointment. The end result was horrible. The color did not match and they told me to give it a few days. Right then I knew my money was wasted. Whenever salons have told me that, it was never true. Then it just got worse. I washed my hair after 3 days of coloring (as the salon recommended) with luke warm water and the color was gone. You could see my blonde tips again. I understand the color after a salon is not supposed to stay for forever but after 3 days and 1 wash. THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE. Furthermore my ends were fried. Multiple people have touched my hair and asked what happened. They said it felt like straw or synthetic barbie hair. That my previous hair did not feel like this. I do not use cheap shampoos or conditioner and I use leave in conditioner. But it still felt awful and the damage on the hair is really unforgiving. I texted Laura asking if I can come in and get a refund. Im a college student so my schedule is busy and I suggested a date but she never replied. The whole process took about 6 hours and cost me $360. I will never come here again or recommend this salon. I was really looking forward to being a regular but for $360 I got damaged incorrectly colored hair. Hair my length should not have cost that much unless you are very very good at your job. The only good thing I have to say is that Laura is a nice person. Sorry but nice doesn't please your customers. I think if you have virgin hair their coloring services would not leave you with as bad as damages as I have. My blonde tips were very bleached. Laura also brushed my hair very roughly when it was wet. Bleached wet hair needs to be brushed very carefully. I ended up feeling pieces of my hair snapping and seeing broken off pieces in the brush. This whole experience was just awful. It took me so long to make my hair healthy again and they completely destroyed it.
Laura and Tiffany have done amazing things to my Asian hair! I highly recommend if you want long layers and styling tips
