Unacceptable Food Safety Standards and Poor Customer Service ​Rating: 1/5 Stars ​I am writing this to caution fellow shoppers regarding the seafood quality and management practices at the Shun Fat Supermarket in San Gabriel. ​I recently purchased swordfish and halibut totaling about $37. Upon arriving home, it was immediately apparent that the fish was rotten. The odor was so overwhelming that it required a deep cleaning of my refrigerator to eliminate the scent. Because spoiled seafood is a significant health biohazard, I disposed of the product immediately to protect my household. ​When I contacted the fish department to report the issue, the experience was deeply disappointing: ​The manager offered no apology for selling spoiled goods. ​Despite the health risks and the one-hour round-trip commute, the fish department manager insisted I physically bring the rotten fish back to the store. ​Rather than investigating a potential food safety lapse in their inventory, the staff treated me with suspicion. I offered my Mastercard transaction record as proof of purchase, but my concerns were dismissed because I no longer had the itemized slip. ​I am not looking for a difficult refund process; I am looking for a supermarket that prioritizes food safety and treats its customers with basic respect. Being treated like a "scammer" over a legitimate health concern is unacceptable. I strongly advise shoppers to double-check their seafood before leaving the counter, as this establishment does not stand behind its products.

Great selection of Asian produce, specifically catering more towards Chinese and Vietnamese tastes. Definitely more likely to find those hard to find ingredients here than other places and at a decent price. Has had a lot of interior renovations over the years for cleanliness and space maximization. Also lots of small business shops selling various electronics, clothes, and etc at booths near the entrances.

The place is huge, vegetables, fruits, and meat are fresh. Variety of international snacks.

They have everything except nice cashiers. You can find everything Asian food that you can think of: sauces, noodles fresh and dry. Plus every kind of meat from land and sea, including live specimens and veggies. Their prices are ok, neither expensive nor cheap. They need to train their cashiers in customer service though.

Shun Fat Supermarket is a great supermarket for a variety of Asian items. Besides getting live fish and veggies, they also have lots of instant noodle options. Vifon is a brand that has so many options of noodles. This time I tried their pho which came in a bowl or square packet. The bowl was convinient and authentic. I made a chicken pho ramen which was filling. It is a great price! The supermarket is clean with lots of items to get.

At 5:56pm on April 7, at check out register 7, there was a lady who was in her 20-30s with a low ponytail. She had customers wait in line while she was talking to her co-worker casually. Her line was noticeably longer than others because she was not paying full attention to her duty already. Many customers switched to other lines. I didn't want to move my groceries so I chose to wait. After she checked out some one before me, it's my turn. Out of blue, she stepped out of her checkout machine and was troubleshooting her co-worker's cell phone problem, completely ignoring I was the next. I had to wait for her until I can't wait any longer. I said hello. She did not turn around. She didn't respond me at all. anyway During the whole checkoutthere was no apologies, no greetings, no "thank you" , no eye contact, no communication at all. She didn't even bother to tell me the total. Please hold your position while you work. Or let your customers know what to do. Don't leave them wait dry there.

Plenty of parking and great selection of Chinese and Vietnamese items. I'd recommend the desserts end cap around the fruits and vegetables - includes coconut jelly, hot e, and sam bo luong and ask the customer service for a straw/spoon on way out.
