Heng Fa Food Market

Heng Fa Market in Philly is a great spot. I picked up some fresh lychee, Kam Yuen snacks, and Buldak noodles. The market has a wide variety of Asian groceries, and the produce is always fresh. It's a must-visit if you're in Chinatown!

I found this place while walking around China town. They have fruit stand in the front and side of the building. The store has 2 floors, and it's pretty tight walking through due to the amount of merchandise they have. There is more fresh produce inside, seafood, and meat that is fresh. There are many varieties of snacks, baked goods, candy, and drinks. Everything is reasonably priced. I left with a full bag of items and spent $20.

During my recent visit to Philly I visited this store located in China Town, I was looking for a fish variety which is known to me. I could recognise pomfret, Spanish macrel , surmi( anjal or vanjaram) live crabs , macrel , prawns and sardine. Prawns were almost fresh available in full and half peeled. Regarding surmi and other fish one must know how to pick fresh and good ones from the available lot. The prices of fish were generally less than those available in other corporate stores which are pre packed and frozen. Some of the vegetables which indians are familiar with are also available here. One must note that any purchase below $10 has to be paid by either debit card or in cash. The staff at fish counters deserve appreciation as they oblige to their request regarding slices / cutting the fish. Crabs are live and available in 3-4 sizes and the price varies to match their size. It's a must visit store in China Town.

I usually visit this Store (prefer to say Chinese Sea food and Meat store) to buy a fish. I use to get some good amount of fish for good price, but you should know how to differentiate which is fresh or not. I found some variety of fish are so cheap and good (*if you find the fresh one). Just reduced a star (rating 4 Star) because of freshness of the fish, sometimes it might be old.

Was about to buy a whole box of shrimp. On the freezer, it says $19.99. However, when I’m check out, it came out to be $27.99. So I asked the cashier "why is it $27.99 and not $19.99 like what it was listed on the freezer?" The cashier rudely answered "I’m just working here, there’s nothing I can do. I put in the code and that’s what it came out to be. You might have got it wrong." Like come on! Instead of helping a customer, you blame them instead? I mean if you, as an employee, can’t do anything then who can? A customer like me? I never heard that an employee can’t do anything while working there. Also, there’s no price tag anywhere that says $27.99 on the freezer for all the shrimp. Maybe the store shouldn’t be scamming their customers like that.

So much variety of produce and Asian snacks I can't really find anywhere else. The first thing you will notice upon entering is the overwhelming fish smell, but I think it adds to the experience. Clerks/cashier's are very polite and helpful and fast and efficient.

Great place to pick up grocery's (Chinese). The produce outside are amongst the very cheapest in all of Philly. Meats are also well below supermarket prices.
