I am very grateful Wing Hop Fung continues to succeed, this is an incredible place to browse, smell, and experience (East Asian) tea! I grew up with weekly visits to their prior location in downtown Chinatown and remember it fondly for their buckets of dried sweet fruit and fragrant tea leaves, and when I moved back to LA, this new location still evokes the same soothing, joyous feeling. I stopped by specifically to browse the blooming green flower tea and rose petal herbal mixtures, but overall I was very impressed by the quality of the imports (whole leaves, preservation methods, flavorings) and complex, layered scents. I bought 6 batches of different types of blooming tea, and tried it at home to excellent effect. (Yes, I was tempted to purchase more.) To respond to the other reviews, I was personally fortunate to find a friendly staff member who kindly explained the different variants they sold of blooming flower tea. I suppose they could benefit from a more "friendly" staff, but similar to how one might rate a classic Chinese-American restaurant, one should judge by the quality of the product and not the service (and another time when I brought my dad along, the attendees were quite conversant, so this is likely a language barrier). For what it's worth, I've tried various blooming teas from Western-ish brands for the convenience (Whittard, Numi, Harney & Son's, etc.) to find middling taste and high price; I've occasionally found success in the guess-and-check method of ordering from reputable online stores with English descriptions (Yunnan Sourcing, etc.); and I would venture that yes, I could travel to China to find and try these teas myself, but... Wing Hop Fung is right here, with teas ready to take home, for a comparable, if not cheaper, price! Once again, I'm grateful Wing Hop Fung is still here in LA! (And in a great location for nearby shopping too!)

Very impressed with the product selections here! Very high quality herbal products such as teas, chinese medicines, chinese herbs, food ingredients, alcohol products, and so on! You can find different prices range from high end to affordable there. I purchased some teas and they are packaged well and tasted really good and authentic. Employees seem very knowledgeable in their products. Im impressed! This designer approved! 🙂

Teas ($/lb.): Bi Luo Chun Spring Snail Green (曲綠碧螺春) $89.99 Dancing Butterfly (玉蝶金蓮) $108.99 Delightful Bouquet (幸福花籃) $108.99 High Mountain Fog Green Tea (高山雲霧) $95.99 High Mountain Tie Guan Yin (高級高山韻香鐵觀音) $68.99 Rose Black Tea (玫瑰古樹紅茶) $39.99 Spring Queen Pearl of Jasmin Green Tea (珍珠茉莉花茶皇) $149.99 Superior Peony (White Tea) (明前高級白牡丹) $159.99 West Lake Longjing Tea (明前)(西湖龍井茶--龍塢茶村) $148.00 for 8 oz. Bird Pick Glorious Paradise $6.50/0.5 oz. (2 rosettes) Bird Pick Sprinkle Stars Tin $19.99 for 2 oz. I stopped by Wing Hop Fung to restock on loose leaf teas; it's generally best to buy around November - December because they offer discounts (usually 10% - 30%) for VIP members; this visit was 20% with a random 30% & 40% on select flavors. I typically purchase a half dozen, but this time I went double digits because my son wanted to try a couple. I left a couple of bags over the summer while visiting my MIL, so I needed to restock. Judy was handling the counter & brewed samples of High Mountain Tie Guan Yin (aka goddess tea), which had a nice roasted & sweet tang. I also tried the Rose Black Tea, which had a fragrant floral taste. I picked a few of my usual & tried a couple of new blossoming teas: Dancing Butterfly & Delightful Bouquet (my fav Peach Fairy is no longer stocked), & mostly green teas with an oolong & white tea. Most of my picks are in the mid-range, & usually purchase between 1/4 - 1/2 oz., with the occasional 1 lb. of my favorite of the day. My fav oolong, Phoenix Yellow Stone Oolong (天仙獻福工藝茶) wasn't in stock; I love the mellow & smooth taste with strong honey aroma. These tea trees in Guangdong have been there since the Song Dynasty & were once only reserved for royalty, so this tea is still rare due to its limited production. I'm not sure if this is also discontinued but I haven't seen it on my last 2 visits. \(`0´)/ It was nice chatting Judy, giving me an opportunity to practice my Cantonese (廣州話), but customers kept interrupting my order so it took longer than necessary with just 1 person behind the counter, & the fact that I usually sample 1 - 2 teas & sniff the teas before buying. No tea comps from 阿姨 for this large purchase. If M wasn't with me, I might have asked to sample a couple more teas. 😉 There’s a stack of aged pu-erh teas that are almost a decade old, ranging from $99.99 - $2,399.99/lb. (top to bottom). Wowza! I also stocked up some snacks & found a cute kitty mug for my niece; she's been newly inducted to drinking loose leaf teas so I'm sharing my load as part of her Christmas gift. I need to find her a clear teapot for the blossoming teas. I wanted to pick-up guilinggao (龟苓膏) & bird's nest (燕窩), but didn't see any & already overstayed because the l'il guy was getting impatient so I skipped it/didn't ask about them. I'm sad that they're no longer in Chinatown; they currently only have 2 locations: Monterey Park & Arcadia (The Shops at Santa Anita). Still not a frequent patron but a loyal one, I always look forward to restocking my tea supplies here & practicing my Cantonese. Recommended: Loose teas (listed above), Bird Pick Glorious Paradise, Bird Pick Sprinkle Stars.

Love the wide variety of teas and tea ware. I can easily spend an hour here smelling and sampling tea. The people here are friendly and I appreciated the answers to my questions when it came to finding specific teas.

This is the place to get all your Chinese herbs and delicacies. Wing Hop Fung is such a trustworthy brand for quality imports. They have a huge variety of Chinese goods and they import directly from sources in China that they’ve been doing business with for many, many years. WHF is such an established business in the market. It’s also family owned and operated. Their tea selection is my favorite part of the store. You’re allowed to open the tops off the glass jars to experience the aromas of the teas. If you want a sample, simply let the employees know. They may not all speak English, but they are friendly, and they know how to understand what you want. You can purchase teas in bulk, let the staff know about how much (quantity like quarter pound or cash value, either work) and they will weigh your tea on a scale. They have all sorts of Chinese, Japanese and Indian teas. Special blossoming flowers, a huge selection of Pu-Erhs, and a whole corner of the store is dedicated to herbs. These herbs are not your typical garden herbs. They carry Goji berries, all sorts of dried mushrooms, ginseng and medicinal roots. It’s like candy land for herb enthusiasts. On top of their enormous tea variety, they have a huge inventory of alcohol. Some bottles of cognac are the only variety available in the U.S. WHF carries select and exclusive liquors. It’s an impressive collection, and they often host wine/liquor/sake tasting events for you to sample their lineup. Get tea sets, incense, soaps and beauty products here too! The parking is free out front.

The shop carries many ginseng and Chinese herbs. Sometimes, you may be lucky to buy some wines with a good price. However, you have to compare with the others. Bird nests are mostly from Indonesia with good quality. The price is reasonable.
