H Mart Long Island City

The prepared food here is alright. Chicken rice bowl: For $8, this was pretty good. Extremely generous portion of chicken and rice. The chicken was very meaty, not particularly moist but it was tender and it wasn’t dry. Nice mix of light and dark meat. It was well seasoned but not salty. The main flavorings were sugar, mild chile and onion. It was sweet, a little sweeter than I would have liked, but not at all cloying and pretty typical for Korean cuisine. Rice was a little bit firmer than I like but overall very good. I got this at the end of the day, may have been even better at lunch time. Oh, and it was not spicy. Tteokbokki with fish cake: pretty standard, good but not special. Rice cakes were firm and chewy. Fish cakes were fine. The sauce was sweet but not excessively so. It was spicy, but not very spicy. Spicy tuna onigiri: I appreciate that this rice ball had a good amount of filling, but unfortunately it wasn’t really that spicy or flavorful. Stuffed inari: too sweet. Tiger sushi: I’m still not really sure what was in this roll, but it was okay. Gimbap: it’s fine gimbap, but could be a little more flavorful. Better when warmed up.

H Mart is a popular Korean grocery chain and the Long Island city branch is excellent because of its large scale, competitive prices, clean, and well maintained interior, and the food court that accompany it. I love the banchan (Korean side dish) section. Although they are a Korean grocery chain, they carry ingredients from Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, and other Asian cuisines.

I love this location. They have one of the greatest selection on Japanese, Korean and Chinese goodies! We definitely visit H Mart monthly, stocking up on fish cakes, instant noodles, sushi kimbap and our fav Asian snacks (banana kicks!!). Tip: waiting until past 6pm and snag their own kimchi soup when it goes 50%OFF. Kimchi stew here one of the greatest stews!!!

Went to Hmart to do grocery shopping and stop by their food hall for lunch, food is very good and nice is a individual store selling different kind of authentic Korean food.

H Mart Long Island City offers a wide selection of fresh produce, meats, seafood, and prepared food in addition to other grocery items as well as home goods. Prices are fair especially compared to similar grocers in the city. Usually, there are food/beverage samples but if you’re looking for a meal right away there are also sections of restaurants and spots that offer sweets lining the inside perimeter of the location. Photo booths and crane games are available near the entrance and cash registers.

I give the LIC H Mart high marks for friendly staff, a spacious layout, large selection and super clean premises. My disappointment stems from difficulty shopping at 930 a.m. on a weekday. They were restocking shelves everywhere, making it difficult to get many of the items I was after. And two hours after opening, the fish counter was not yet open. I bought what I could, going to a different supermarket for the rest.

Before it opened I called it. This area needed a comprehensive grocery store not another specialty one. If you go to Roosevelt Avenue it’s stuffed with Asian supermarkets. They have a one product selection, if any, of common items all nationalities use. Cake mix. Syrup. Soda. Butter. Bacon prepared meals and pet foods. On and on I could keep adding to this list. I doubt they’re going to be around for a long time. If you shop there, you’ll just have to go another store too. Or two. It’s filthy and badly laid out. They did nothing to improve the stores condition since stop and shop ripped up the floors to sell them. It’s awful. And I love a good selection of Asian products but it would be nice if you could buy other things there. If they have it - it’s priced three times higher than its real value. They’re taking advantage of the captive audience
