Seafood City is one of my absolute favorite spots — and here’s why it’s so popular and trendy for Filipino food lovers (and newcomers alike). Why People Go to Seafood City: 1. Authentic Filipino Supermarket Experience Seafood City isn’t just a grocery store — it’s a cultural hub. It specializes in Filipino products and ingredients you don’t always find at a regular supermarket. 2. Fresh Seafood Galore As the name suggests, the seafood section is top-notch — really fresh fish, shellfish, and other seafood, often cleaned or cut to order if you ask. 3. Huge Product Variety Beyond seafood, they carry a wide range of Filipino and Asian grocery items: sauces, snacks, produce, meats, imported goods — everything to recreate Filipino home cooking. 4. On-site Food Court Inside the store, there’s a food hall/food court where you can grab ready-to-eat Filipino comfort food while you shop. This makes it a "destination" — not just for groceries but for dining too. 5. Community Vibe & Trendiness Seafood City has become a trendy place for Filipinos and Filipino-Americans, not just to shop but to hang out, especially among younger generations who appreciate the mix of food, culture, and community. What You Can Find There Grill City / Food Hall Favorites — Grilled meats, seafood skewers, classic Filipino dishes, and street-food style eats. Bakery — Traditional Filipino breads and pastries. Sizzling Filipino Dishes — Sisig, grilled pork, seafood, and other savory treats. Seafood Department — A wide variety of fresh fish, shellfish, and other seafood staples. Groceries & Imported Goods — Everything from Filipino sauces and rice to snacks, drinks, and more. Why It’s a Trendy Spot Cultural Hub: It’s not just a supermarket — for many Filipinos in the area, it’s a place that feels like "home," a place to gather, shop, eat, and connect. Food + Grocery + Hangout: Because of the food court inside, it becomes a one-stop destination: you can grab pancit or grilled food, then shop for ingredients. Events & Energy: Across the Seafood City chain, locations have been known to host "late night madness" events (DJ nights, community gatherings) that bring a festive, social energy to the store. Instagram-worthy: The food hall’s dishes (especially grilled items, desserts) are visually appealing, and people love sharing them on social media. Final Thoughts & Recommendation If you haven’t been to Seafood City in Carson, you absolutely should — whether you want to stock up on Filipino staples, pick up very fresh seafood, or grab a quick, delicious meal from the food court. It’s a vibrant, welcoming place that really captures what makes Filipino food culture so special. Highly recommended for grocery runs, food adventures, or just a fun place to hang out and eat something familiar (or try something new).
I go here with my wife who is Filipino. I enjoy shopping here with her because this is where she gets ALL her ingredients to create the delicious food she has been cooking for me for many years. I was unfamiliar with most Filipino brands but I can taste the difference & it is thanks to this Market. If she's had a difficult week babysitting, I will still shop without her to buy her a treat or something so she doesn't have to cook, because I know if I have a question someone will either show me or tell me. It helps that I've shopped with her enough to know where many items are though. (The Grill City that has been added has a favorite of hers.) She loves to have Halo Halo on very hot days. we frequently buy 2 & sit in a park eating it. I can't say enough about the overall atmosphere. Maybe it's because I'm with my wife's people, her kababayans. Sure, it's just a grocery store but I've gone inside some grocery stores where it just felt scrambled & not condusive to a positive shopping experience. I want to check out the product I'm buying. I will take time to read the labels. I wish more places had the vibe. ...
I came to Seafood City specifically for the chestnuts vendor. I had tried them before at a Chinese new year festival and really enjoyed them, so I decided to come here to purchased a bag and politely asked if, in case I liked them, I could upgrade to the larger size for $10. Instead of responding professionally, the woman assisting me was dismissive and had a noticeably rude attitude. Her tone made it clear that customer service was not a priority. There is a difference between enforcing a policy and being disrespectful. I don’t know. How it works as being a Vendor but I don’t understand this type of attitude from this vendor but there is no excuse for treating customers in an unwelcoming way. The interaction left such a negative impression that I will not be purchasing chestnuts from her again Jinbao Chestnuts. If you value basic courtesy and professionalism, you may want to reconsider before buying from this vendor.
In 2023, we went here first… and this was my comment: "Whoa... lots of kapwa filipino. Feels like home. Lots of filipino products... and the music inside is also filipino. I had an easier time talking and asking questions using tagalog." In 2025, we returned and not much change.
There is a lot of filipino goodies and they have a fresh meat, fish, fruits and vegetables as compare to other big grocery stores. I like the city grill where you can dine in and eat new cooked food which is delicious.
Everything Filipino we needed is in this plaza. There is a red ribbon, chowking, valerios bakery, grill city, cooked streetfood etc. the supermarket has meat and fish vegetables and fruits. One stop shop.
While visiting the area we got to go to Seafood city! The city we live in doesnt have places to buy our favorite Asian ingredients, so to find things here at seafood city was a great treat! Great selection, fresh fish and seafood, and all the great ingredients for cooking those good old comfort meals to make you feel like your home in the philippines/ and Hawaii! Prices were great too! Hope to come back again!
