Safeway

In August 2025, we visited the Safeway grocery store in Astoria, Oregon. This Safeway store is adjacent to the East Astoria Boat Ramp, and we were able to buy some groceries and fuel up our truck and boat at favorable prices. This Safeway location is clean, well-maintained, and has a well-organized store layout. We had an enjoyable and memorable boating and fishing trip to Astoria, Oregon on the Columbia River.

For the bakery only!! Talk about stepping up their game! Over the course of a week we had to order two birthday cakes and boy did they deliver. Both were fluffy and moist (ew) and delicious! They were both beautifully decorated. Each was different but colorful and gorgeous. Nobody guessed that these weren’t custom cakes from an expensive bakery. Thank you!!!

There was fruit flies in the donut case. When I told the bakery stuff, they said they knew, and then I told the cashier and they said, yeah, they already know about that. They had no intentions to remove the big infested food. Normally its an okay place to shop. A little sketchy at times. Staff is helpful when trying to find products.

We shopped today at Safeway and used the fast check out. The old white lady cashier told me scan your phone and I said clip coupons don’t work so she had to override. She was mad and yelling me in front of the customers. She needs more training as customer service. Don’t bring her problems at home to her job. Our first time here and we are disappointed. We have Safeway back in Hawaii, they have good customer service and they don’t discriminate Asian.

Great sandwiches from the deli, awesome selection of cheeses and a whole aisle devoted to just about every flavor of chip you could hope for. They have a great selection of stuff and have sales on items you wouldn't expect too, I got a $50 bottle of wine for $20. Staff are helpful and friendly too.

The pharmacy folks are just down right rude at this location. I called to check on a prescription that was supposed to be done by 10am, that I requested two days ago because I know they're closed on Christmas, and I can't go without my medication. I was told by 'Chris' who answered the phone, "Yea I'm getting it, but I'm being swamped by phone calls so I can't fill your prescription if I'm on the phone can I...". Holy cow! I've been nothing but patient and understanding with these folks but that stops now. I'm currently in a wheelchair and it's hard as hell to get to the pharmacy for meds I can't get delivered. No one should be treated like this the day before Christmas for just trying to see if their medication was going to be ready.

The outside of the building is not maintained. The lines all need redone . The landscaping company you can’t tell doesn’t do their job over grown trees with damage to them from being hit by vehicles Lights over the front doors burned out or not being turned on . Staff is usally always friendly looks like they fired a lot of the rude ones . Would go here before seaside Safeway. Unfortunate that corporate doesn’t seem to care even after 5 months later of pointing it out .
