This is certainly the best Asian grocery store in Alaska, it has many ingredients (that when my wife and I make the trip into Anchorage) We pretty much always add to our list of stops. It's simply has so much for making different Asian and ethnic foods that nobody has come close to replacing it. I really like their live seafood and The sheer variety of everything from curry pastes to bagged rices. In fact they have so much excellent quality rice, I don't think I knew a good rice was until they introduced me to the 2026 new crop three ladies rice haha changed my life. I wish they had a bit more of a variety of exotic fruits and vegetables, but they have a very good stock of what you would need to make pretty much every Asian, Thai, and even most Indian dishes. I will say that they Do not have the best meat department outside of seafood but that's really one of the only areas that's lacking. The fresh bread and pastries are wonderful and they have things from generic staples all the way to fancier items. Honestly even if you don't buy anything sometimes it's just fun to walk around and look at all the fun snacks and things, and I can say that that has a lasting effect as I've enjoyed coming here since I was a kid and teenager.
Great variety of food hot and ready to go! Love the small market. Coffee, smoothies, sandwiches, salad and more!
Grocery section is great, but the Asian food counter has been steadily declining over the last few years. I used to love their spicy beef and I ordered a pint of it today and it was unrecognizable in appearance and flavor. Paid $9 for mostly a box of onions and C grade beef. It used to be filled with broccoli and beef and it is completely different now and even taking that into account, the quality is really lacking.
It is known for its quality seafood selection. Their food court is always packed, which means their food is good. Personally, I'm a big fan of their poke. Just know that it is not just an Asian store. You can find a variety of products from different countries that you cannot find in regular stores.
So I would like to leave a one-star review for new sagaya. Shops here plenty of times my girlfriend's mom shops here all the time my girlfriend stops to use the restroom. While I'm waiting the rude cashier told me get out. In a rude voice and that were not allowed to shower here. Keep me mind no one was showering. My gf simply was using the bathroom. For someone who is in the military nine years and did two tours in Iraq I have never been treated and disrespected like I have a new sagaya. And then I asked why I'm not allowed here she says because you still here all the time. Not once have I ever stolen from this place. She was just I don't know I've never been disrespected like that she calls herself a manager and I can see why this place is ran the way it is
A great stop for some cool items! Snagged some shoyu ahi and it was delightful
10/13/23- I found this by accident listening to a radio commercial about Poke at Sagaya. I met Justice who said he makes the Poke and it's a Hawaiian dish. I have a lot of Hawaiian and Polynesian friends in Utah but I don't eat it. I had no choice today because Justice shared a sample of his Poke and it's delicious 😋 I told him I liked the spicy best. I'm glad he let me try it because now I am hooked. They have cooked food upfront and lots of hard to find groceries. I hope they recognize Justice because he gives awesome customer service!
