Waccamaw Dermatology - Wilmington

I recently became a patient at the Wilmington office after being referred by a cancer treatment practitioner. All I can say is WOW! My first visit was for screening and to address some areas of concern, I saw Jill and she was awesome! Fast forward after biopsy results and I saw Dr. Avila for removal of basal cell. She was wonderful! It is such a pleasure being a new patient at Waccamaw. Scheduling an appointment was a breeze and I didn’t have to wait 6-8 months. From Carrigan at the front desk to every other person I’ve seen and talked to at their office, they have all been top notch! Can’t recommend enough!

Dr. Christina Avila did mohs surgery on my shoulder for some skin cancer and did the most amazing job. The operation was painless and extremely thorough and the healing process was perfect. She took the time to explain every step of the process before and during the procedure and what to expect during the healing process. I was very impressed and highly recommend her!

Dr. Jill Maddox and her entire team are phenomenal. From the moment I walked in, the staff was welcoming, professional, and incredibly efficient. Dr. Maddox took the time to listen, explain everything clearly, and made me feel completely at ease. The level of care, attention, and kindness I received was exceptional. I’m so grateful to have found a dermatologist and staff who truly go above and beyond. Highly recommend!

I took my 2 year old in for an evaluation for his eczema. They had kid friendly snacks and juice in the lobby and the nurses/assistants were so nice and helpful! He was afraid to sit in the big chair and Christina sat on the floor with him to color as they asked us questions. Andrea evaluated my son matter of factly, despite the fact that he wouldn’t sit still, and was knowledgeable about our options for treatment. They were very reassuring, friendly, and supportive! If you’re wondering if they’re kid-friendly, they are!

I saw Dr Avila last fall for some skin discolorations on my face. She prescribed a retinol gel and then gave me a series of options for a skin care regime. She took the time to review everything with me and wrote down various options for me. I went back 2 months later and my skin tone had really evened out! Everyone in the office is very attentive! I would highly recommend Dr. Avila!

Went to their office to have a wart removed on a child . I was told they were in network and it would be a 20$ copay as they were a in- network provider, THAT WAS A LIE. I paid the 20$ copay on our way out but supposedly they switched us to a provider that was not in network so now we owe a bill. Then to cap it off they didn’t fix anything, as they offer nothing to help ease the pain while they hit your child’s flesh with liquid nitrogen. I had to tell the lady to stop ………….. no , my child is scared, hurting and you are going to stop ,you’re not hurting my child. Left many message about their billing mistakes and several months later that still haven’t fixed. This is not customer service nor would I ever take my child there. They are only for those wanting a skin routine and stuck up individuals. Not a family oriented place. The only one that has been kind is the one making appointments and then someone switch the providers unknowingly. I didn’t know. How would I. We hadn’t even been there before.

Friendly and detailed staff. Excellent experience. Recommend just as much if not more than other dermatologists (and without having to wait months at a time for an appointment).
