I have been going to different locations off and on for years. I like Dr Haugen at this location, however, some of the other staff aren’t great. I have a few monthly prescriptions that I have been using for more than 5 years. At my annual checkup, the assistant is supposed to update my prescriptions at my pharmacy before they expire. In November, I had my annual checkup, and the assistant told me that all of my prescriptions would be sent to the pharmacy. So I went into the Walgreens app and requested a refill Dec 13. Walgreens staff could not fill the prescription because the new one hadn’t been sent. So Dec 16, Walgreens reached out to Derick dermatology to request an updated prescription. Derick dermatology did not get back to Walgreens and now here we are 10 days later and I have run out of medication. I called Walgreens. They told me what happened so I had to call Derick this morning. Here is what the person working in prescription said: -I’m looking through your chart and it says from your last appointment that you’re not supposed to be on this medication anymore. (Not true) - well maybe the assistant didn’t put this updated prescription through because you said you didn’t need refills. (Just because I didn’t need a refill in Nov doesn’t mean I don’t ever need one again) - Walgreens never called us about this medication, they called us about a different medication. (There was only one refill request and it was for this medication we’re talking about.) So I systemically responded to each of her three defensive excuses, and she finally admitted that all three of those were not true. You can imagine after being on the phone with somebody for five minutes hearing pretty far out reasoning for why this prescription never got sent through that I got pretty upset. She tried everything she could to come up with reasons why the prescription was not updated none of which are true or matter. Just say something along the lines of " I have no idea what happened. Let me double check that you should be on this medication and I’ll send it over right away. Sorry for the inconvenience." That’s it right? There’s no five minutes of all the excuses and reasons why she thinks maybe it didn’t get called in. Just call the script in and apologize for the inconvenience. My biggest problem with this whole situation today is that at no point does anyone that works there seem to understand that when somebody doesn’t call in a patient’s updated prescription, there are consequences that are pretty serious for the patient. And when a pharmacy reaches out to the dermatologist office to get an updated prescription because the patient requested a refill, and they don’t respond, there are serious consequences for the patient. Finally, after all the back-and-forth, the prescription person was like well I’m sorry. I said you don’t sound very sorry and you haven’t sounded very sorry the whole time. She says you’re yelling at me. I said I didn’t start the conversation with being upset with you, but I’m upset with you now and I need somebody to call me back because this was a really negative experience. We will see whether or not somebody actually calls and has any kind of accountability.
Outstanding experience! Shannon’s professionalism is coupled with her excellent interpersonal skill and makes you feel like you are her only patient! Laura makes you feel at ease and is an active listener!! Alexandra is courteous, welcoming, and presents as a wonderful introduction to Derick Dermatology!
I have never written a negative review, but the more I think about how I was treated and what poor behavior this is for a medical facility, the more it seems important to share my experience publicly. I missed an appointment because I was having a medical emergency. I had a poor response to a new medication, and while driving to my appointment, experienced extreme vertigo and lightheadedness. I pulled over and, worried about being a bad customer, and not really thinking properly, I called to let them know what was going on. The woman I spoke to expressed zero concern, did not ask if I was okay, and put me on hold for over 5 minutes. I finally realized how absolutely stupid this situation was, sitting on a curb on hold on the side of a very busy road, disoriented, trying not to faint or throw up. I finally hung up and called my partner for help. She then *called me back* to make sure that I knew that I needed to pay the late cancellation fee—while I was having a medical crisis on the side of the road. Never asked if I was okay or needed help. When I told her I needed to get off the phone because I was very dizzy and felt like fainting, she repeated the information about the late cancel fee before hanging up. I don't even care about the fee, I'm happy to pay. I do care about being treated like a human being who has value. The doctors I saw here were fine, the office staff I spoke to lacked empathy or common sense. Not going back, ever.
I have had a wonderful experience with Derick Dermatology in Skokie recently. I was taken in for my app't on time, the procedure was explained thoroughly and questions answered. The procedure went smoothly and I left shortly after feeling good! I would highly recommend Dr Jun and the entire staff who took care of me and were professional and courteous. It is a very comfortable office and all have helped me with any questions I've had! Thank you!
Self-pay visit for DPN and skin tag removal. Pricing was clear, in and out in about 30–35 minutes. Healing went well with proper aftercare and results look very good. Professional and efficient overall.
i require periodic dermatological care -skin scans and biopsies of ‘interesting’ moles. (thankfully all have been ‘just interesting’) The care I receive is excellent, caring, and medically appropriate. I recommend Derick highly
Dr. Haugen is a wonderful dermatologist! She’s so knowledgeable, professional, thorough, proactive and most importantly caring. The entire practice is run so well. Highly recommend them!
