WARNING - use any other Dermatologist than this one - there are plenty out there. These folks were lucky enough to inherit most of Matt Wilkes patients! First appointment with Dr. Carly was a disaster! Super arrogant, bragged about her experience and just started freezing everything on my body without any explanation, and rushed through my appointment because her clients doubled with Matt’s passing. Received a huge bill from them even though I have insurance. My second appointment Dr Carly was busy so I saw her PA McKenzie. I told her about my previous experience and told her I was going to find another dermatologist and she said "just see me instead." So I reluctantly agreed to give it one more shot. I had a spot on my forehead and McKenzie said it was a cluster of blood vessels and it was nothing to worry about! And then same thing - out comes the freeze bottle and freezes a bunch of spots again with no explanation. Again - I receive another large bill from them. I called my insurance and asked why they weren’t covering anything and they said it was because the dermatologist coded all of it cosmetic surgery . I was under the impression that they were freezing everything as a preventative measure against cancer. So I was still concerned about that spot on my forehead so made another appointment with McKenzie. I told her even if it wasn’t something I should be concerned about I wanted it removed because it was an eye sore on my forehead. She said if we remove it we need to send it to the lab for testing and I said no problem. The lab called me a couple of days later and said it was pre-cancerous!! Good thing I asked for it to be removed on my own when she should have removed it from the get go and more than likely would have been cancer on my next visit in a year. So they asked me to come back for a follow up to make sure they got it all. So during my follow up visit with McKenzie I simply asked her if there was a way to code the freeze treatments as preventative instead of cosmetic surgery because insurance would not cover cosmetic surgery. She said that would insurance fraud and I told her and I quote "I certainly don’t want you to do that!" I received a letter a couple of weeks later that this office no longer wanted to treat me due to philosophical differences in treatment. Apparently she thought I was encouraging her to commit insurance fraud on my behalf and that was not the case! And never asked me for clarification! Obviously I was confused by the letter so I called them for clarification. After over a week and 9 messages I reviewed a call back from their case manager - not McKenzie or Dr Carly whom I left messages for! Before I could even explain my side of the story she said the decision had been made and they weren’t changing their mind. I told her that’s fine - I wanted to change dermatologists from the beginning and was never happy with them from day one! She told me they just treat and the insurance company determines what the procedure is coded. I told her that was fine but don’t you think the dermatologists should have a CONVERSATION with the patient before they treat them for something that the insurance will consider cosmetic surgery instead of skin cancer treatment? I don’t blame the insurance company for not covering cosmetic surgery - that’s not usually medically necessary! If they can’t change the way they code the procedure they should at the very least inform the patient that this treatment will be considered cosmetic surgery to your insurance company BEFORE they perform the procedure! If you want either treatment without any explanation or be misdiagnosed - keep seeing them. If not I recommend any other dermatologist than this one! And Carly - don’t try to get on here to dispute these facts - because you wouldn’t even give me a courtesy call to discuss this and hear my side of the story before - or after - you sent me the termination letter!

Carley Fowler is an excellent doctor. She explains all conditions and procedures completely before beginning any treatment. She is warm and engaging and her staff is very friendly and efficient. After having a surgical procedure done, she texted my husband the following morning to see how he was doing. And that was on a Saturday! Highly recommend Dr Fowler.
Dr. Fowler is absolutely wonderful! She treated my adult onset acne with ease! My skin is clear again! Dr. Fowler is also a pro with the Botox! She carefully studied my face and my expressions before injecting. Dr. Fowler is also great about steering one away from in necessary procedures. I truly wish I still lived in Knoxville - or anywhere near Knoxville - so I could continue to see Dr. Fowler!
