As a trans man it can be kind of distressing to go to hospitals. I've heard many stories online about people like me being disrespected, but I had none of that during my surgery. Staff are even allowed small forms of self expression, and seeing a pride themed badge clip meant the world and made me feel at ease. Past that, the staff were very cordial, answered all my questions, got me a bendy straw so I could share a drink with my partner, some even voiced support for my identity. Those who didn't, or maybe who had opposing views, didn't seem to show it and treated me with upmost respect. I never had the feeling that I was unsafe in any way, and the whole experience leaves me with happy tears with how volatile today's environment can be for trans people, sometimes especially in the Midwest. The hospital was very clean, I actively saw custodians cleaning unoccupied rooms as well, no issues with anesthesia either. A surgery that was projected to take 1.5 to 2 hours only took one hour and they explained the results very well to my partner. Based on the sounds of it, I think my deviated septum is fully cured and I'll be able to breathe as long as recovery goes well. Billing also explained that I could either oay up front today, or wait for the statement and get some taken off for paying it all in one shot if I call the number and asked billing. Estimated prices were given to me up front and they confirmed with me that insurance was active when I asked. Just make sure to get as detailed instructions written down as possible so you're not anxious like I was trying to find where you're supposed to be :]
My father went into ER around 6:30pm vomiting blood, was triaged yet not called back until 3 hours later. He was then admitted and stayed inpatient for a little over 3 weeks. I will say there was a few fantastic nurses and CNA's who truly love their job and gave exceptional care. Had it not been for them I would have urged for him to be transferred. He stayed on the 3rd floor and then moved to the 4th floor. I called patient concerns and grievances and left multiple messages for a Lydia. At some point Lydia transferred my voicemails to a Megan and she did give me a call while my father was still inpatient. I did stress the importance of patient dignity and wanted to make sure my father was receiving impartial care. (i.e. Doors should be closed during bed pan use/ cleanings, there should not be comments from nurses or CNA's about any patient needing to be cleaned/ cared for, and cleaning of items needed to be a priority. Pics below show state the room after things were 'cleaned') Megan did comment about calling while my father was in their care was not something people did, and that it was usually after the fact. My mother stayed every night at the hospital except 2 because she herself had to get stitches after a fall. On the first evening alone they realized my father needed a 'sitter', yet they removed that care the second evening. My mother was told someone would be with him, but my father also fell out of bed that night. She stayed with him from that point on. I called again to leave a voicemail for Lydia and asked for a returned call from her or Megan. Megan called the day my father was transferred and had a supervisor on the call. I was very disappointed that this did not seem like a priority at all, but yet a burden to make a call and listen to concerns for a patient that was just in their care. Once he was ready to be transferred to a rehabilitation center to make sure he received PT and OT we had to work with the social worked name Stef. Stef was very emotional and took things personal. She was unable to provide impartial care to my family and did not communicate unless we called her. My father fell out of bed on a Tuesday and I did not hear from her at all and we had no idea when he would be transferred. On Thursday that week she saw me in the hall and I stated I hadn't heard from her in a few days so we didn't know what was going on to which she stated 'Oh I told you, if you have questions call!'. I gently let Stef know that I have a full time job and I was hoping she would be able to update us without having to ask. She then replied 'Yes, I have a full-time job too!'. I then gently reminded her that this was part of her full-time job. Stef became very hostile and emotional. It's almost as if she was looking for an argument, and I was pushing my father down the hall in a wheelchair so I just told her to have a nice day and continued our walk. Stef proceeded to walk form the break room and nurses station and pointed at me multiple time. As I retype this I honestly cannot believe this situation happened. Especially taking into account my father was inpatient for 3 weeks. Stef was not able to provide adequate support or resources to my family. My father was transferred on a Friday and a different social worker (male) called and left my mother a voicemail around 8:30am to let her know he would be transferred about 11:45am. We were not aware as to who was transferring him and even when the facility came to pick him up, they were not told what kind of transfer he would be meaning he could not stand on his own. I am thankful for my own network and resources to support my family through this process. I cannot imagine being a family member of a patient with no way of knowing what questions to ask or who to reach out to. Finding guidance in advocating for a loved one should not be a privilege, it should be the baseline for all patients and families available through the facility they are receiving care. At the end of the day, I do hope this review will save another family from choosing Methodist Jennie Edmundson.
I arrived late to my appointment for an IUD removal and replacement, and while I understand that being late can be inconvenient, the way I was treated was completely unacceptable. The front desk staff—specifically Jenn on the second floor, was absolutely awful. From the moment I arrived, I was met with rudeness and zero compassion. I’m a young woman and was already extremely stressed. I don’t live in town, have had the same OBGYN for years, and specifically wanted this procedure done by familiar providers. I flew into town during the holidays, which was chaotic enough, and instead of being met with understanding, I was treated with hostility and impatience. My IUD has been expired for over a month, so my main concern was my own safety with leaving it in for longer. The other nurses were just as inconsiderate. They showed no empathy, offered no reassurance, and failed to explain any next steps or options after I arrived. This is a sensitive medical procedure, and the complete lack of professionalism, communication, and compassion made an already stressful situation much worse. Being 15 minutes late does not justify being treated so poorly in a medical setting. I left feeling dismissed, and extremely disappointed. Will never return here again
My daughter has RSV and was talking 40 breaths per minute. So I decided to take her to Jennie. The check in went smoothly and triage, but then we waited for a very long time. Then while waiting still she had a ex ray done. Then continued to wait. Going on 4 hours and my daughters medicine was not working no more and needed more, her cheeks started turning red dued to fever. So I decided to take her home to get her medicine. Called Children's Hospital and they advised to keep her elevated with vicks steamer with medicine and to decide to take her to Children's. Well gave her zarbees and Tylenol, still breathing heavy, hope for the best/ we live 25 miles east. But we've been involved with Methodist for several years and I know there is a overflow er. I asked the receptionist whats going on and she stated there are like 4 people waiting on rooms that got admitted. Well golly, they could of put them in the overflow to treat the full waiting room. There was several other people left to. Very disappointed with Jennie!
I went to the ER for a belly button infection. They told me it developed to cellulitis and at first, they said they couldn’t do anything for me because I have been on my antibiotics for a day. I told them it would be two days that day at 12pm. So the nurse dug around in my belly button which is swollen shut. They drew my blood for infection. The doctor came back and told me that I had an abscess but they couldn’t do anything about it because it would be too painful and that she was going to give me stronger antibiotics. Two days go by, my belly button is still swollen shut and now I have to go back to a different ER. This will be the third time I try to find someone that will actually help me. The doctor was very rude and condescending. It was Dr. Hergott.
My girlfriend visited the emergency room. A nurse who lives in the same apartment broke HIPPA violations. She told her husband about my girlfriend being in the emergency room and the reasons were gossiped all over the apartment complex. Then the emergency department defended the nurse saying there is no physical proof of any kind she was the one spreading rumors. I do not consider this hospital a methodist hospital. If they believe they are the meaning of care then they have the wrong definition of "care" I would strongly advise visiting anywhere else.
Methodist should remove their name from this Hosptial, they truly don’t care about their patients. From working there to coming in with pain in abdomen. Staff was sitting around cussing and gossiping while we wait for a room that isn’t available. I seen a lot of unprofessionalism while working there mostly from phlebotomists. But their were arms security guard and phlebotomist going on and on while cussing.. we are in pain and having to wait as is.. have some decency to be quiet.
