The front desk staff did not greet us when we arrived and did not check us in right away. They were too busy on their computers and getting their Starbucks order to greet us. When we checked out the front desk, staff did not listen to us when we told them when we needed to be seen back according to what the doctor said. They ended up having to call after we left and rescheduled because they did not listen to us in the first place. The doctor was knowledgeable however I was not impressed by the front desk staff.

This was a disappointing experience overall. Before my appointment, I was flooded with calls, messages, and notifications. The voicemails weren’t even informative, just repetitive reminders. It felt unnecessary and honestly was really annoying. The intake process also felt sloppy. I was sent a consent form for treating a minor even though I am clearly not a minor. They knew my age already. It’s a small thing, but it reflects a lack of attention to detail. Also, at check-in, I emailed my digital insurance card as requested and was told it didn’t have the right information. I later double checked and it absolutely contained my insurance information. I supplied my physical card to complete the intake instead. When the staff was returning it, she stood partially in the doorway and made me walk over to her rather than just handing it back or calling me up to the desk. Like why do that? Seems like common courtesy to just hand someone back their insurance card, but this staff member didn’t care or have the time to do that. It came across as dismissive and unprofessional in my opinion. The clinical experience didn’t improve things. After I agreed to a full skin check and was changing, the provider tried to open the door before I was finished and didn’t properly knock and wait. When I said I wasn’t ready, the door wasn’t fully closed again. That’s basic patient privacy. During the skin check, there was very little communication directed at me. No reassurance, no explanation of findings, and I wasn’t told the results at the end. This was my first skin check, so I’m not sure what the etiquette is, but it wasn’t a good experience. The main issue I scheduled for ultimately couldn’t be addressed. I was told I needed to go see a different kind of provider. But, I feel that this assessment could have been made without actually seeing me. So, now I feel like they were just doing the skin check so they could bill my insurance for it. Last thing, the floor of the room was so dirty. C’mon. My appointment was at 9 AM too. They either have low standards for cleanliness, or just don’t clean the floors regularly. It was so gross. I will not be returning to this office.

Front desk staff inattentive and did not welcome us or check us in right away- they were busy on their computers and getting their Starbucks order. On checkout the front desk staff did not schedule us correctly n/c they did not listen to us when we tried to tell them what the doctor said. The doctor was nice and knowledgeable, however I was not impressed by the front desk staff.

I literally never even made it to my appointment and I'm still giving the office 5 stars. I'm a grad student at the university, and shortly before my appointment, a receptionist called to ask me to make sure that my insurance was going to cover my visit, and that based on my plan, she thought I likely wouldn't be. I even checked with my insurance provider and was assured this office was in-network. She said she had seen similar cases before where grad students pay the small copay during their appointment only to have their visit not approved by the University of Iowa (even if they're in-network with the insurance company!) and then they receive a much heftier bill later. I'm so grateful that she called to save me the money instead of letting me come in and get bamboozled later! What integrity! Like I said, I canceled the appointment, but I'm sure if their doctors are as genuine as their office workers, this is a great place to go 🙂 I give University of Iowa Gradcare 1 star if you're wondering.

My first visit since moving to Iowa. I have had great care in the past and was nervous about finding a new provider. My experience was exceptional. Dr. Thompson was very professional and thorough. She answered my questions and was concerned about my care. I am happy to find such a skilled practitioner.

The group of people were very efficient. I should have asked more questions. Definitely, I felt like they experienced with their procedures. I was pleased they were able to do biopsies/excisions on my first visit. I forgot to ask when and how I would be notified of the results. I also forgot to ask if I needed to do anything to my biopsy sites and what I could expect during the healing process. I never did get on the APP site and forgot to ask what the URL I needed to put into the system. Overall, it was a positive experience. Being a newby to the office, perhaps I was overwhelmed and didn't know what to expect. Anyway, the people were all very nice. They obviously are busy, as the wait time to get scheduled was months out. I would recommend them to friends and family.
