I was initially so excited to be seen by a black dermatologist in Chicago. I had high hopes for both of my visits. Unfortunately, this practice overcharged me for both visits and when my insurance fought it, they refused to correct the issue. In addition to this each visit felt so rushed with either the doctor or the PA spending about 5 minutes with me total. It felt like I was on a conveyor belt with no interest in truly understanding me or my potential condition. I was then charged for a 45-minute visit despite having only been in the office for 15 minutes at most. I'd say don't go here if you're looking for a practice to spend genuine time with you and help treat you. However, if you're just looking for a quick stop and easy prescription this practice works just fine.

I came in hoping to get a second opinion and to address my acne concerns. I was 15 min early for my appointment and yet I still had to wait 20-30 minutes (after my appointment time) to be seen by the doctor. Dr. Kaminska was very nice at first and seemed to listen to my concerns. I expressed concern with some of the medications and treatments I had received before and she then listed all the things she would recommend which were confusing because it was not clear if they would work all together or i should try them separately (some she said I should try separately, others she didnt explain). I kept asking questions about the treatments and she seemed to get agitated with my questions and responses to her recommendations. I had a few acne cysts at the time and she said that her office could treat them in the future "but not today"...didn't explain why. After one of my questions she just shrugged her shoulders and said "We are out of time" and just left. I was out of words, confused, and overwhelmed with everything she had said. One of the medical assistants or nurses saw everything and she even called me later that day because she saw that I was disappointed and overwhelmed and explained the treatment options. Needless to say that I would NOT recommend and I would not go back. This is not the standard of care anyone deserves.

TLDR - Dr. Kaminska had me fully undress in front of her causing uncomfort and embarrassment. I scheduled an appointment via email with Dr. Kaminska's team in May of 2024 for an August 2024 appointment. In the time between my appointment booking and the appointment, I went thru with a breast reduction. When my appointment came up with Dr. Kaminska, I figured it was perfect timing to also address scar management etc. I checked in to my appointment and was led to a room with 3 plastic chairs and a "rolling" doctor stool, that's it, nothing else in the large room. The nurse that took me to the room asked if I had major concerns. I said, I haven't seen a dermatologist in at least 10 years so I wanted to establish patient care. I also mentioned that UNRELATED to the appointment, I had recently had a breast reduction. She told me the Doctor. would be in shortly. I was never asked to undress, to put on a surgical gown, etc, nothing. Dr. Kaminska came in with 2 additional med students. Asked for my consent for them to be in the room. I obliged. She asked what my concerns were, I restated that I had not seen a dermatologist in over 10 years and UNRELATED to my appointment, I had recently had a breast reduction and would like to discuss scar management. She then said, well let's see your breasts. I WAS SHOCKED. So there I was taking my dress, slip, and bra off in front of the doctor and the students. I have seen many many doctors, never in my life have I undressed in front of one. So she examines my breasts, gives me some feedback, and that was the END of the appointment. No skin check, no mapping of moles. NOTHING. As I am leaving, still in shock, I stop by the front desk to ask the receptionist what kind of appointment I booked because as I mentioned, I booked it online and maybe the receptionist booked the wrong appointment. She said a skin check. I asked her what happens in a skin check? She looked confused and asked if the doctor looked over my body. I said no. She did mention that sometimes people book skin checks even though they have a specific skin concern. With some back and forth it was determined that the Doctor was gone and I needed to leave for another appointment. I asked if we could reschedule the appointment and if my co-pay could be used towards that appointment. I was told NO, it was already billed. I asked what my insurance was being billed for, she said a skin check. I DID NOT RECEIVE THOSE SERVICES, why am I being billed for such? I asked to speak to a manager. About an hour later, I received a call from the manager. I gave her the above story and she understood my concerns and said she would call to confirm we could move the payment to the future appointment. A few things I will take responsibility for: 1. Not speaking up for myself when I was asked to undress in front of Dr. Kaminska and students. 2. Not asking why my appointment was over before it began? 3. Noticed that it was a red flag that I was in a room that didn't have an exam bed, linens, etc. A few things Dr. Kaminska should take responsibility for: 1. When a new patient that mentions she hasn't been to a dermatologist in 10 years, I'd expect her to want to look over my skin for any issues etc. 2. NOT ask a patient to take their clothes off in front of them. I will say, I was willing to go back because she was thorough in my breast examination and gave good recommendations. And in the moment, I just wasn't thinking about how violating it was for her to ask me to undress in front of her. As mentioned, I just had a breast reduction, had multiple appointments prior to the surgery, actual surgery, and follow up appointments, and was never once asked to undress in front of anyone. They ALWAYS stepped out of the room and let me change. I never heard back from the manager, so I canceled my future appointment and honestly, probably would have no matter what. Because no one should be made to feel the way I did while in her office.

The staff was exceptionally friendly. Dr Kaminska was a breath of fresh air. She had an assistant who did all the work, while she spoke to you, very attentively. I’m so glad I found her,
