The staff was very friendly and welcoming! When I arrived at Alaska Dermatology and Laser Center I was greeted by a nice young lady who asked me to sit in the waiting room and wait for the doctor. The waiting room was very comfortable and made for a pleasant wait. I've been in some offices where you feel like you're in a laboratory waiting to be experimented on. Not the case here! When they called me in, the doctor was very polite and seemed very knowledgeable and experienced, he answered all my questions thoroughly and was very nice and genuine. The following several appointments were equally as enjoyable and I will be going back for a a few more appointments soon.
Nice staff and we got an appointment quickly, but my husband and I waited for over an hour and never did see the doctor. The office was well decorated and homey, but did the actual appointment rooms did not present as clean/sterile for medical procedures. We arrived 15 min. early, filled out paperwork, then waited 30 min. to get into the appointment room, followed by another 40 min waiting to see the doctor. In the end, we left, without ever seeing the doctor. We will go somewhere else. Not impressed.
Stay away. I was able to get in quickly for an appointment with Dr. Cusack of the Alaska Dermatology, Laser and Skin Cancer Center, but was unhappy with 1) the professionalism of the office (the receptionist took my medical history), 2) the thoroughness of the exam from the doctor and his assistant, and 3) the 5 min electrocautery procedure was totally ineffective and was billed as a $400 laser surgery, plus $320 for an exam. That's right $720 for a visit that totaled 15 minutes and did not resolve my concern. I did ask about the cost of the procedure, but they information they provided was wrong. The office seems to be maxing out what insurance companies will allow them to bill even if it is not commensurate with the treatment or care provided. I had a much better experience (albiet longer lead times for appointments) with the Alaska Center For Dermatology.
I was seen promptly with practically no wait time. My body scan for cancerous or pre-cancerous spots was conducted thoroughly and professionally. On a previous exam a questionable spot was removed, biopsied, and found to be melanoma. Because it was detected so early, it was able to be completely removed before it had spread. I highly recommend this office for any skin care concerns.
I went in for pretty much my Acutane check up. I mentioned to him that I have a pimple on my nose that won't stop bleeding. He tells me that next time I come in he can zap it and that I won't have to worry about it again. So next time comes and I now he tells me that he is worried that it could be cancerous. I tell him that I've had these before and all he has to do is poke it with his little electricity rod to cauterize the blood vessel to make it go away. But no he insists, so like an idiot I agree and he shaves it off and guarantees it won't come back. Well guess what won't still stop bleeding folks. So now I still have to deal with this, and is down a shitload of money. Guy is a straight sham, just save yourself some stress and time and see a different dermatologist. Trust me you won't regret it.
I don't normally write a review but this time I decided to share my experience. I went to see the doctor with eczema on my cheek and eyelid what I've had over 6 months. The doctor prescribed me a cream and sent me to the hospital to get some blood work done to rule out any internal cause. I was very surprised that he didn’t ask me more about my family and my health history before treating me. The ointment what he prescribed had a warning that some people who have used this Tacrolimus Ointment have had cancer and people with a history of skin cancer should NOT use this cream. Coincidentally, my grandfather passed away on melanoma a few years back, and at the same time, I’ve had five moles removed with signs of pre-cancer. At this point, I’m not willing to take any risks with this medication at my young age. The cost of the cream was $390, so people might think that they are getting something really special for that kind of price. It's kind of ironic that a dermatologist who should always be against anything that could possibly cause a skin cancer would prescribe something like that. On the positive side, the people in this clinic are nice and, at the end, I was able to figure out on my own what is the cause of my eczema.
I was referred to Dr. Cusack at Alaska Dermatology for some irregular moles and areas on my back. The facility was very clean, the staff was courteous and after filling out my information, I only waited about 10 min before being brought into an exam room. Dr. Cusack looked at the areas my primary physician was concerned with and thought it best to send them in to be checked. I was pleased with this as other dermatologists had told me just to keep an eye on them. Good thing we had them checked as one of them came back as a skin cancer. I was surprised at how easy the treatment was and I have very minimal scarring. I would recommend Dr. Cusack to anyone. He was professional, cared about what would be best for ME, got right to the point on what my treatment options were and not to mention has years of experience. Very satisfied!
