It’s a wonderful place to get dental work done. The students on their last year are the doctors but there are supervisors. They don’t proceed unless the student doctor talks it over with their superiors. Very big difference all together from private Practices. At VCU you are treated as family. They also have gadgets that the private Practices do not have. Excellent communication. I drive far to be seen because I know I’m being taken care well. By the way they provide free parking.
I have been going to the VCU student and faculty practice sine 2001 and I really like it. Not only do you get a built-in 2nd opinion when you go to the student clinic but you know they are doing it not for making money but for passing their qualifications. Yes the student clinic takes longer but the trade-off is lower cost and a level of care that is not in a private practice that profit is the driving motivation. The faculty practice is more costly but you get the same level of care, experience and quality that is concerned with your dental health and not pushing unwanted procedures just to make a profit. I highly recommend either the student practice or the faculty practice. However, BEWARE of the security people at the 12th st entrance they will take offence at any slight they perceive as having "attituded" and they will intimidate you and threaten you with not allowing you entrance. In fact they will take it so far as calling a VCU policy officer to wait until you leave from your appointment so that person can intimidate you. So show no attitude, go with a smile, be humble so you don't piss-off their undertrained bad attitude security staff that take the slightest offence at everything. I don't know if it was because she had a bad day, I am a women, I am 67 or I really hope it isn't my ethnicity because that would be really sad and disappointing. Besides the bad security, I really like the VCU dental clinic and highly recommend it just beware of the nasty door security people.
I got my tooth pulled and they were top notch amazing every single step of the way from the security at the front door directing me where to go to the extraction process to wheeling me down to my vehicle!!! GO VCU!!!!! THANK YOU AND KEEP UP THE OUTSTANDING WORK!!!!!!
I have severe dental experience trauma and some pretty hefty anxiety when it comes to having any dental work done. I had to have 2 teeth extracted today after visiting their emergency clinic earlier in the week. One was a wisdom ty ooth, the other a broken tooth. I needed to receive sedation for both. My experience was nothing short of amazing from beginning to end and I had zero issues during surgery. The one thing I can agree on with some other reviewers is some of the people that run security and other aspects lack a little kindness at times but I also can empathize that its never fun dealing with the public (especially if they're in pain or panicked) so they get some grace. I am returning for other dental work and my anxiety is significantly lessened.
I haven’t even been seen yet and the people at the answering service are grossly unprofessional. Just called to try to get more information about services, pricing, and insurance because guess what your damn website doesn’t break it all down and if it does then it’s extremely difficult to navigate. Got talked to like a damn child. I was polite and just trying to figure out what I need to do. The lady was super condescending about the whole encounter. I would rather pull my own damn tooth at this point than to have another interaction like that. Pretty sad that I didn’t even have to be seen to get a horrible interaction that strays me far from this place.
I have had one of the worst and unprofessional experiences in my life. They (including all) will give you the run around regarding billing and submitting pre-estimates for services that were not done. Think twice before becoming one of their patients
I have terrible teeth due to meds, Dr. Justin Doran (student), will be my future dentist too. Everything has been excellent so far. Getting plates in 2 weeks. Yes!
