Ulta Beauty at the Vancouver Mall, is a great spot for all your beauty stuff and makeup. Even if you don't need it, you'll want it. They're always ready to help you find what you need, and you can ask for suggestions, too. There are tons of brands and makeup lines I've never even heard of, but you'll always end up loving them.
I came in the day before my appointment and spoke directly with a hairstylist to schedule a blow-dry and curl. I was very clear that I would be arriving with wet hair, and I was told this would be fine. When I arrived for my appointment, I was suddenly told they could not blow-dry and curl my hair because there "wasn’t enough time," and that it would now take longer and cost more. This should have been communicated and scheduled correctly from the start, since nothing about my situation had changed. I also spoke with the manager, who was no help whatsoever and showed no interest in resolving the issue. The customer service was extremely poor, and the situation was handled in a very disorganized and unprofessional way. Management needs serious improvement. I would not recommend for anyone to go there!!
I went into the Vancouver Mall store looking for some skin care. Shirley approached asking if she could help me with anything. She was amazing! Very knowledgeable, very helpful, patient and kind. She didn't try to sell me only the line she represented, rather, she listened and showed me the best product/line for my skin and requirements. Thank you very much! I will definately ask for her again and again.
I’ve been a repeat customer of Kayla in the salon a handful of times now, and I have to say, I never leave disappointed! From the fun environment her and her co workers provide, to the phenomenal skills she has.. my hair always looks amazing and I always look forward to our next appointment! Thank you Kayla 🙂
So I don't know how score my review because my experience deserves both 1star and 5 stars. I'm giving it 5 stars though because Shirley deserves 5 stars, the salon chick barely deserves 1. Here's a quick summary in case you don't want to read my whole long rant... Shirley from the Clinique counter was worth every penny, the ulta make up lesson that brought me to the store to begin with was a complete waste of my time and money! I have extremely uneven skin tone on my face due to scarring because I have Lupus. I sometimes struggle with foundation and decided to suck it up and pay for a makeup lesson at the Ulta Salon so I could learn how to better apply foundation for a more even look. And it was a complete waste of my time and money. The lady applied foundation to one side of my face, didn't explain what she was doing while she did it, didn't give me a mirror (or even have one at her station that I could see myself in) and then she asked me to apply makeup to the other side of my face, copying the technique she had used. Except she didn't explain her technique and I couldn't see what she was doing while she was doing it. She finally handed me a mirror after it was all done, about 15 mins into what was supposed to be a 30 min appointment, and the results were worse than what I had been doing at home. Then she tried to sell me all of the products she had used. After I left the salon area I walked around the store for a few mins before another employee, Shirley (working the Clinique counter) asked if I needed help. I explained everything that had just happened and how unhappy I was with the result. She offered me a face wipe so I could remove all of the makeup that I had just paid to have put on and then she was took the time to find a foundation that actually matched my skin tone. Shirley was friendly, knowledgeable about the products she used on me and patiently explained every step of what she was doing as applied products to my face. In hindsight I wish I had skipped the salon completely and just talked to Shirley to begin with. She never tried to upsell me or convince me to buy anything. I ended up spending over $200 that day buying every product she had used, new brushes and some skincare items, all of which I am extremely happy with. That amount also included the $30 I wasted on a lesson that wasn't actually lesson btw. Shirley from the Clinique counter was worth every penny, the ulta make up lesson was waste of money! If you want your makeup done for an event or night out, it might be worth it but paying for a makeup lesson was a total waste.
The female employee with the blue hair at this location on 10/4/2025 was extremely rude to my daughter. My daughter was looking at some Squishmallow makeup products as she’s been interested in makeup. This employee came running by and screamed "that’s a TESTER, NOT A TOY", as she walked by. My daughter has a hurt wrist and was simply trying to open the tester to view the colors of the makeup. Extremely unprofessional. We will be reporting to higher ups as well to make sure something is done. My daughter was distraught as she was being respectful and doing NO HARM TO ANYTHING. She’s old enough to know better and I was standing right next to her as well!! Do better Ulta, we are disgusted.
BIG HUGE SHOUTOUT TO JENNY. I came in with horrible acne and honestly frustrated with my routine. We talked about my skin and its specific needs and what she recommended me is ALREADY showing me results within three days of using it. I’m honestly shocked and stoked. That girl knows her stuff. I’ll be back to see her for makeup for my skin too :))
