So glad I found this place! I usually like to go to 85C for my asian pastries, but this is a lot closer to me. I was so surprised they had green thai tea!!! It’s one of my favorite drinks and a lot of places either don’t have it or butcher the drink. Although it didn’t quite taste like how I expected it to taste, the drink itself still tasted like a green thai tea and was pretty good, just a bit on the sweeter side though. The pastries all looked so good and I was tempted to buy them all but just chose to get a chocolate pastry. It was light and not overly sweet! This was the perfect study snack! I did come pretty late in the evening so a lot of the pastries were already gone or sold out. Definitely plan to try their other drinks and pastries!
I came to this bakery shop as a fluke. I was picking up my order from the restaurant next door and saw this place so I decided to go and take a look inside. First of all, my experience with Chinese-style bakery shops here in slc isn’t that great besides 85C so I didn’t expect much before I went in. I’m not sure if the owner is Chinese, Taiwanese, or Hong Kong but that doesn’t concern me—although I know that different countries have different styles of bakeries. Anyway, I was surprised by how they organize the products and how clean the store was. They don’t have that many options for bread compared to bigger stores which is understandable but they all looked delicious and clean. I picked a few buns, wife cake, red bean pastry, and moon cake (trying to stick with Chinese traditional bakeries assuming that they are gotta be good). The price is standard. I came home and give the wife cake a try since it’s smaller piece and it was very delicious. The dough is flaky as it should be and the filling was not too sweet and right amount to the dough portion. Next day, I tried the red bean pastry and again it’s very good. The buns were next and all I can say is that it’s all tasty and comparable to fancier more expensive bakery shops in town. This is a small little gem that I have never heard anyone speaks about but I will surely spread my words. I will definitely be back. Gotta try their cakes next time!
I have been back multiple times since I first discovered Yao Bakery less than a year ago. Their Mango Pomelo Sago and Mango Durian Sago drinks have had me in a chokehold lol! I’ve been adding boba lately which is always cooked to the perfect texture. I also enjoy the Sesame Mochi drink, as well as, the Taro Sago and Coconut Milk Slush. I mean, I will be trying every drink on their menu if they all are going to taste so fresh and delicious! All their Coconut Jelly’s are great. Of course my favorite is the Mango Pomelo Coconut Jelly, but there is also Matcha Double Coconut and Classic Double Coconut. The owner is a husband wife duo. I’ve only met the wife who is always kind and is usually up front serving customers. I’m assuming the husband is busy behind the scenes preparing the incredible food items. Anything I have tried here has not let me down. Which is why I had to add my latest experience. I noticed on one visit that a family had come in and bought up all of one certain menu item. It had me very curious so upon my next visit, I saw there were a few of those specific items available on display and I decided to try one for myself. It was called Taro Mochi Dried Meat Floss Cake. It sounds like it wouldn't work, but to my delight I quite enjoyed it. Semi-sweet cream filling and chewy fresh mochi sandwiched between light and fluffy sponge cake then rolled in a dried meat floss and what looked to be nori. The smell was a little pungent, but I always try something once. I never know what I may like until I've tried it and this Taro Mochi Dried Meat Floss cake is definitely a "Don't Yuck My Yum" situation. (Shoutout @doobydobap) I can’t wait to try everything they got in this bakery lol. I hope this local spot gets all the love because the business owners are doing great things here!!
Taro soy milk is so good! You can tell they use real taro, not too sweet and tastes just like homemade. Price is reasonable. I also got the pork flake bun, and it’s delicious. Waited around 10 minutes for the drink, but worth it. Definitely coming back!
First time here and I’m blown away! The mango mochi is so delicious. My drink was modified to my liking and wow I’m so impressed. I’ve tried many boba places and this is my new favorite!
We love Yao Bakery & Boba Tea and have visited numerous times. Our standout favorite is the mango durian sago, made with real durian. The staff is incredibly friendly and always takes care to double-check our order, especially when we request no additional sweetness. The storefront is clean, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the pastries are consistently delicious. Highly recommend this family-owned business!
Love their sesame mochi drink, the mango palmetto drink, the chestnuts drink… all these sound exotic flavor but taste real, not from those fake powder or syrup. Egg tarts are the bomb! The crust is light & flaky, authentic! I also like the meat floss cake. Sounds weird, but Asian will know how good and diverse the meat floss can do to food. It’s a cozy, simple and clean mama papa shop. The baker is proud of all his pastries. This is by far, my favorite Asian pastry shop in town.
