Authentic Russian gem with incredible homestyle cooking! This place is a fantastic combination of grocery store and restaurant serving absolutely delicious, authentic Russian food. The kitchen operates Tuesday through Saturday, mornings until 4 PM, so plan accordingly if you want their hot dishes - Saturday is perfect for a leisurely lunch. We tried their borscht and it was phenomenal - rich, intense beet flavor that’s exactly how traditional borscht should taste. My husband prefers lighter versions, but I absolutely loved the bold, authentic preparation. The classic Napoleon cake was a sweet highlight - perfectly layered and delicate. But the real star was their piroshki! These are HUGE and absolutely delicious when served warm. We got both the chicken and mushroom and beef varieties, and both were perfectly seasoned with flaky, golden pastry. Beyond the hot food, they have a great selection of Russian groceries if you want to take authentic ingredients home. The combination of restaurant and market makes this a unique find. Highly recommend for anyone wanting genuine Russian cuisine. Just remember to come during kitchen hours (Tues-Sat, morning to 4 PM) for the full experience!

The food is truly remarkable, offering a delightful experience for the palate. The owner and staff consistently demonstrate exceptional kindness and warmth towards every guest. The pirozshkis and the soup are particularly noteworthy and delicious. These dishes represent a true culinary highlight. The overall experience is made even better by the friendly atmosphere.

Absolutely kind people. You will be treated like family here. They always ask if you need something more if dining in. They are incredible people that actually try to get to know you if you come as often as we do. The Piroshki were phenomenal. Full of filling and absolutely delicious. Enjoyed it. Solyanka is divine. Do not skip this place. 10/10 first thing I look forward to in the morning

Great, interesting lunch options. A little pricey or am I just not used to this new economy? Great place to pick up unusual jams, candy, cookies and more for a creative gift basket.

1 star for the cakes. 2 more stars for service personnel and everything else. Has the owner himself tried those cakes? He used to make his own type of Napolion cake years ago, but now he seems to resell someone’s cakes. Those cakes are no where near what they are supposed to be by USSR/Russian standards. I had to throw it away. It is just not good. Besides flour, eggs, and a lot of sugar it has nothing else. I will never buy cakes from that store until they start making their own. I am pretty sure the owner does not eat such cakes because I tried his own style of cakes when he used to make them himself, but now it is just not good. Please bring back your own style of Napolion cake.

This is my new favorite restaurant in Walnut Creek! Refreshingly unique in the area and stands right alongside Cinderella Bakery in SF. Incredible food, really friend staff, strong dessert game. Chicken Kiev, dumplings, and piroskis were some of the best I've had. Cool ambience, well lit space with chandeliers and Eastern European decorations. Great drinks selection too: Hungarian wines, Czech and Polish beers, Russian vodka, etc. Will absolutely be returning, highly recommend!

Love their spices, but it’s the Piroshki’s I’m here for!!!! These things were amazing, if we lived closer, we buy them weekly. They travel well, and they definitely stay fresh for a few days!!! I like the owners very much. I thought they were very helpful.
