One of the best "comfort" and casual Korean spots in the Bay Area! My Korean born wife and her Korean friends absolutely adore this place and I do too. The quality is excellent, service is fast, and nothing satisfies a jajangmyeon and tangsuyuk craving like HK Banjum does. Highly recommend the jajangmyeon (black bean noodles), the tangsiuyuk (fried sweet and sour pork), and the Jjampong spicy seafood noodle soup (esp if you love seafoood). Personally I really miss their fried rice offerings from several years ago. Hope they bring it back!

Jajjangmyun ( black bean noodle) is every Korean ‘s soul food that brings out such a nostalgic memories of childhood , especially if you grew up in 80 or 90s in Korea. My parents would take me to Korean Chinese restaurant on special days like birthdays or graduation day. I tried several places in the Bay Area that might mimic the tastes of my childhood memories but this place is closest it gets. I love their jajjangmyun and tangsuyuk ( sweet and sour pork) . Their jajjangmyun has perfect combination of sweet and saltiness of black beans with chewy noodles. I love coming here but can’t come very often because my geriatric metabolism can’t handle the carbs and fat contained in this delicious dish ! lol

Very rude employee (middle-aged Korean woman) at the cash register. When I went to the counter to pick up my order, I told the employee my exact order and there was clearly only one take-out bag on the shelf. But she refused to even check the only order there to see if it matched what I said I had ordered. She demanded that I give her the small paper receipt I had initially received when placing my order (which of course I couldn’t find after doing my grocery shopping at HMart). Even after showing the employee the credit card charge on my end, she refused to check the order. Frustrated, I dug through my HMart shopping cart until I finally found the small paper receipt. Of course, the only takeout bag sitting on the shelf was mine. It doesn’t take much effort to check one takeout order if a customer can’t find their receipt right away. As I said to this rude employee, they’ve lost a customer forever. To add insult to injury, the noodles I ordered were soggy, bland, and overpriced. Never again.

Among the food court options at Hmart, I can only recommend two places: Daeho Galbijjim and Hong Kong Banjum. I’ve tried food from the other spots, but I wouldn’t recommend them. Especially Jung Bunsik—maybe it’s best to stay away from there! Jajangmyeon and Jjamppong are truly the soul food of Koreans, aren’t they? I love both, but in San Francisco, it’s hard to find places that do them well consistently. The taste often varies too much. That’s why Hong Kong Banjum, with its reliably consistent flavor, is my top pick. I recommend their Jjamppong, Tangsuyuk, and Jjajangbap!

Very flavorful! One of the best Korean noodle spots in the bay area for sure. The jjambbong had insanely flavorful broth and filling. The gochu jjajangmyeon had a deep savory black bean flavor with perfectly cooked noodles.
