Came for the lunch special and honestly, it's not that great of a deal. It's only ~$4 cheaper and comes with green tea (which I don't drink, so it was wasted on me). I will say that the service was truly exceptional - everyone was so nice, personable, attentive, and explained everything so clearly. The meat was also noticably high quality. Their portions are also generous. (With free rice/veggies refills.) Would recommend coming with a group so you can mix and match different meat options.
This place is truly unique — it’s a Korean + Japanese fusion–style shabu shabu, and quite different from typical Japanese shabu shabu or hot pot. They offer a soy-marinated crab (ganjang gejang)–inspired broth, which already sets them apart, and it comes with a bowl of their signature rice. The plating and tableware feel very Korean, so the moment you sit down, it really feels like you’re having a Korean-style hot pot. At the same time, the ingredients and overall balance lean more Japanese, and the fusion feels very natural rather than forced. This is an à la carte restaurant, not all-you-can-eat. Three of us spent about $170 total (around $56 per person), and we were extremely full by the end. 🥩 The meat selection is extensive and high quality. We ordered a small plate of wagyu, a large 32-piece beef platter, and lamb — all were fresh and well-cut. Vegetables are included, which is a nice bonus. We also ordered Japanese skewers, including beef tongue, chicken heart, and pork belly. Everything was cooked perfectly with great seasoning, especially the beef tongue and pork belly — definitely not an afterthought. 🍤 For the appetizer, we chose the garlic shrimp, which was incredibly fragrant. The shrimp were large, juicy, and loaded with garlic flavor, especially good when dipped in sauce. Each person gets two dipping sauces: a sesame sauce and a soy-based sauce. I personally preferred the sesame one — slightly sweet, very smooth, and perfect with the meat. Service also deserves a shout-out: the staff constantly checked in to see if we needed anything, whether we wanted more broth, and how the food was. Since it was a holiday, they even complimented us with an extra bowl of meatballs, and to finish, they thoughtfully served ice cream for dessert. Overall, the dining experience was excellent 👍
A comfortable and casual but modern style dining experience in Mira Mesa. The food is delicious and our server took the time to explain the menu options. She was just as pleasant after my 20 questions. My son loved this place!
We had such an amazing experience at Mokkoji! The servers were extremely attentive (Our main server was Tri, and he was super nice) — they made ordering super easy, suggested the best way to get more bang for our buck, and went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. They even gave us a big table so we didn’t have to wait long, which we really appreciated. The food was absolutely delicious — the meat was high quality and so flavorful, and the unlimited veggies, rice, and condiments really tied everything together. Everything tasted fresh and perfectly prepared. Overall, incredible service and top-tier shabu! Definitely coming back soon.
Good food, fast service. We are usually seated right away. Food comes out fast and they always check in on us. The appetizers are really good too.
Give Haven a big raise!!!!!!!! Best server ever and so accommodating! The food is very good with large portions; I left feeling very full and happy 🙂 P.S. promote Haven to boss
Amazing dinner at Mokkoji Shabu Shabu Bar in Mira Mesa! For those of you who don’t know Shabu Shabu is Japanese hot pot. We ordered the surf & turf set sampler for two and chose the seafood platter with lobster, salmon, scallop, shrimp and ordered the New York cut for beef. It also comes with a garlic shrimp appetizer. Everything tasted incredible. Great vibe and atmosphere, all the staff were very friendly and accommodating with our questions, and the food comes quickly. Recommend!
