We reserved this restaurant for a party of 11 people and ordered through the tasting menu and I loved that each individual had its own plate. It does seem that the portion sizes are small but trust me, it a lot of food. We were full beyond our capacity! Food was good, wasn’t that great as I have tasted better vegan food. But I absolutely loved the zucchini sliders and potato croquettes! Definitely worth the try! Restaurant has a bar and their mocktails and cocktails were amazing! The place is a but dark and music is loud and seating arrangement is kinda crowded so it’s a bit difficult to talk to. Washrooms were clean and a bit difficult to find but they were clean and tidy. Servers were amazing and quick in their service, they even checked our coats so we all can comfortably sit. Service was quick and all food for the table arrived at the same time so nobody had to wait. Overall, a decent restaurant and definitely worth the try! I loved the name, and the idea of their vegan kitchen! I will visit it again!
The best! I’ve been going here for birthdays and special occasions since they opened 10+ years ago. Highly reccomend. The atmosphere is everything. All the staff is always so nice with calm good energy. The food is so good and tapas style so you can always try a couple to a few things and share. Such a good experience. Everyone I bring here loves it, vegans and meat eaters alike. The cocktails are also incredible and they have zero proof as well. The menu changes seasonally and it’s truly wonderful in every way. Reservations reccomended for weekends and nights. They always take walking for the bar and lounge area so if you’re just a couple people you can likely walk in (I usually walk in and it usually is fine but if all the walk in tables are occupied it’ll be upwards of an hour wait!) but better to have a reservation just in case.
Somehow my reservation was cancelled but the staff was able to put our party of 3 outside so I appreciate the last minute accommodation. The restaurant was very busy on a Saturday night. Very dark and moody inside. We ordered the meatballs, potato croquettes, korean style tofu, sliders, empanadas, and the Turkish lamb kafta. My favorite dish was the empanadas. I could’ve eaten 3 orders of them as my meal. The sauce was to die for. Everything else was pretty good. The Korean style tofu was pretty spicy and definitely my least favorite. My vegetarian parents loved the meatballs and the ricotta. We got the coconut crème brûlée for dessert which I highly recommend. We did end up being overcharged which we noticed after our card was ran but the staff was able to correct this quickly.
I rarely write a long review but this place is worth it so I will try to shorten this. The food is unbelievable in taste, flavors and presentation. The shared plate tapas style menu is perfect. I would recommend ordering 3-4 items to share for two people. Expect the unexpected. The flavors and ingredients are undeniably savory. The one take away in ordering many different plates, is that each complement each other so well. The drinks are excellent and have so much to them without being overpowering. The staff is overly kind and conversational and attentive. The restaurant is cozy and inviting, however make a reservation to make sure you get a nicer table. Not much space for all the dishes that start coming to you. Great ambiance and music. One of the nicest looking restaurants on the block. I’d highly recommend this menu to anyone, no matter your dietary preference. Korean Tofu-spiciest dish, very well grilled tofu and soft inside with glaze. The side pickled veggies are served cold and decadent. Grilled Baby Carrots-the carrots are served cold but has this like flavor that isn’t even carrot, intense but soft. Mama’s Meatballs-tastes simple like a family old secret recipe but tastes nothing like typical gross meat. The tomato sauce is perfect and topped with ricotta is the best combo. I hate kale, but this is the only one I would ever eat. Spicy Apple mocktail- very smooth and you can actually taste the separate ingredients that pair together great. Blackberry Ginger soda-spicy, but mix it up a bit, not into the black berry bits but overall not too sweet not too sour
Sat at the bar on a recent Saturday. Was phenomenal food and atmosphere. Decent music. The bartender was also really nice and knowledgeable. He happed to be from Towson Maryland, same area i went to college. The food bites were incredible. Absolutely LOVED the crabcake sliders, and the eggplant bao. We had some clever cocktails and some other drinks. I thought the cocktails were well priced for the labor and ingredients. My only gripe is sort of dumb one. I don’t usually get cocktails because of too much sugar and love a bonded whiskey on the rocks. I had some old granddad bonded from the well on the the rocks. They were 15 a pour. (Looked like 1.5 oz). 15 a pour for that was a bit steep. For a buck or two more, you might as well get a cocktail. Also, if you’re old bring your reading glasses, it is dark. Lol. It gets busy, so make sure you have a reservation.
Charlie was a sinner. is one of the best ambiance restaurant/bars I’ve found in Philly! For drinks, we got the Cougar, Emerald City & Done and Dusted. All of them were delicious. The Emerald City was definitely on the sweeter side. The Cougar was heavy on the cinnamon flavor from the horchata. The Done and Dusted was creamy and smooth. The food is tapas style, we got 4 different things to share. The potato croquettes were my favorite. The inside was like a mashed potato but it was fried well so the exterior was crispy. The chipotle aioli was great. The bao buns were good - the ginger and garlic combined with the slaw gave it nice flavor and texture. The hummus was extremely garlic forward, a little too much. Pita was soft though. I wasn’t personally a fan of the slider. The ambiance is great, dimly lit and perfect for a date night. It is pretty tiny in there, but we were able to find bar seats relatively easy. I’m looking forward to coming back!
Located in the Midtown Village, this place rocks my socks off. It's sexy interior and energy is consuming as soon as you step inside. Our server was excellent, and attentive throughout our meal. The high energy also means a very loud space. So, it was a bit difficult to hear and understand what our server was saying. I think he knew how to read lips...because he never flinched to try to understand us. I had to start my night of with a cocktail, and C'est La Vie did the trick on that. Jalapeno infused mezcal, aguardiente, Aperitivo, watermelon, lime, mint cocktail that was perfect. For appetizers we shared Charlie's Rendezvous - maverick cave-aged camembert, white bean hummus, wild mushroom pate, spiced peanuts, red grapes, Castelvetrano olives, grilled bread. Next on to the Curried sweet pea and potato empanadas. On to the Caramelized eggplant bao buns.... HOLY >>> these were good! Finally we dined on the Turkish "Lamb" Kofta - This is the point where I had to remind my partner that "this is a vegan restaurant"... he had completely forgotten that as we ate. Every item we ordered was absolutely wonderful in presentation, flavor and texture. Yet, coming from the San Francisco bay area where food is king, we could not have been more wowed. This was our final meal in Philly and it was definitely memorable. Thank you for such a great dining experience!
