The Slow Train Cafe

Great coffee but breakfast food is a little limited by the facilities. Service is decent. Best part is that it's just a proper cafe and I come every time I'm in Oberlin without fail.

We stopped in on a cold, rainy day and were glad to find this cozy coffee spot. We ordered three drinks—one with regular milk, one soy latte, and an oat milk blueberry muffin along with a vegan muffin. I rated service a 3 because the drinks weren’t labeled when placed on the counter, and since I’m lactose intolerant, I needed to be sure which one was the soy latte. The muffins were ice cold and tasted like they’d just been thawed. They didn’t offer to warm them up, and since we took them to go, we assumed they’d at least be warm or room temp. Overall, okay coffee but disappointing food experience.

We went because of the coffee according to the good reviews by oberlins finest. Amazing care, taste and selection of coffee. Super affordable and off the charts chai. Dont forget to get your espresso. Kudos.

TLDR; cozy ambiance with lots of interior seating but my latte was far too milky a super cute cafe near oberlin college. upon entering, the lighting and seating had a cozy ambiance and most customers are students grabbing coffee before class or sitting at the cafe to study. i read that slow train and the local were the most popular cafes in town, and opted for slow train due to better lighting. ordered at the kiosk and my drink came out <10 minutes. // iced lavender latte, 16 oz ($5.50) // i got the iced lavender latte with the default whole milk. in hindsight i should have gotten skim milk or asked for lighter milk because my drink was very milky. the lavender flavor was fragant but a bit subtle. however, the espresso flavor was not strong and it mainly tasted like milk. a little disappointed given the high reviews, but the atmosphere and people were nice. a little dim though if you're trying to read or study with physical books.

Chai was delicious, and the atmosphere was super relaxed and had good vibes. Service is a touch slow, but I was in no hurry and enjoyed getting to wait in such a chill atmosphere

Iced matcha latte was a disappointment. It didn’t taste and look like matcha.

Parents’ weekend - very busy from the doors opened on Saturday morning - until close. We ordered : Latte, Maple Latte, albino squirrel, and Gibraltar. Espresso drinks are above average. Today only drawback was the wait. Lots of people sitting in the cafe doing work. I would definitely recommend this place.
