Wow the bowls are huge and beautiful. The flavors are really good, the one downside is the noodles aren't as chewy as I would expect from udon noodles. The cold mentaiko udon didn't have the taste I expected, it was more of a refreshing crab taste than a creamy mentaiko taste.
This was a fine udon restaurant. I would not go out of my way to visit but happy to have a meal there if in the neighborhood. The cold mentaiko udon was probably our favorite in terms of flavor. Udon noodle texture is fine but not notable. The smoked duck tasted a little gamey (almost tasted like liver?). Fried chicken was disappointing - it was thin and not crispy.
Cute place, always packed. Udon was good, felt like the meat was a little fatty but broth delicious. Edamame small portion
The uni cream udon has excellent flavor, and the broth is not thick. We had to pay a little extra because they only have premium uni at that time. Takoyaki was crispy on the outside and gooey in the inside with good amount of octopus.
Tried the Uni Cream Udon ($32), Sukiyaki Udon ($24), and Chicken Tatsuta-Age ($9). Both the udons were delicious - great flavor in both. Cream udon was very creamy and the uni and crab made the dish better. The sukiyaki was light but also savory. The portion sizes are pretty large too, so I guess that justifies the prices. My two biggest complaints are that they charged us an extra $6 for "better" uni since they were out of the original uni that comes with the cream udon. If you’re out, that’s on you and you shouldn’t be up-charging $6 for a different uni OR offer the cream udon without uni at a lower price. The second issue is that the service is pretty lackluster - they don’t really care for you after you place your order and they rush you out. This has potential for 5/5 food, but the bad service and up charge left me with a bad experience.
The udon noodles were so chewy and one of the best noodles I’ve had thus far in the states. The portion sizes are also huge and very filling. Fried oysters were a bit expensive for how many it came. If you don’t want to wait, I recommend coming before 6pm. We waited about 20 minutes for a seat.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Futago Udon in Boston, where I indulged in their Spicy Dan Dan Noodles and Curry Fried Chicken. As someone who appreciates attention to detail, I was thoroughly impressed by this culinary experience. Futago Udon’s Spicy Dan Dan Noodles were a flavor explosion, with just the right amount of kick. The noodles were perfectly cooked, showcasing their commitment to quality. The Curry Fried Chicken, on the other hand, was a delightful surprise – crispy, flavorful, and served with an exquisite curry sauce. Beyond the exceptional food, I must commend the restaurant for its inviting ambiance and the attentive staff. It’s evident that they take pride in offering not just a meal but a memorable experience. Whether you’re a graduate student, a working professional, or a young parent, Futago Udon promises a fantastic escape from the daily routine. I wholeheartedly recommend this local gem for a culinary adventure you won’t soon forget.
