Masaaki | Japanese | Omakase

My wife and I had a great experience at Masaaki and truly enjoyed almost everything about it. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the space was clean and thoughtfully designed, and the overall vibe made it a great place to enjoy a meal. The food was outstanding — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish we tried was perfect and clearly made with quality ingredients. We especially enjoyed the yaki oysters. Service once we were seated was excellent. Our servers were attentive, friendly, and made sure everything ran smoothly throughout the meal. The only downside was the experience with the front desk host. At the beginning and as we were leaving, there was no smile, no greeting and no "bye." That lack of warmth really stood out, especially since everything else in the restaurant was handled so well. It felt unwelcoming and unprofessional and took away from what was otherwise a near-perfect visit. Overall, the experience was almost perfect. I would absolutely return and recommend this restaurant, and with a more welcoming presence at the front desk, it would easily deserve a full 5-star rating.

Both food and service are very good. We had the 14 courses omakase with 2 appetizers, 10 sushi, one hand roll, and one dessert. We arrived at 5:30pm on Thursday night and there were only a few customers at the bar table. However, it was almost fully occupied after 8:30pm. There is a municipal meter parking lot on the same block, so parking is not a problem. Highly recommend.

My husband and I came here for a late dinner and our server, Kevin, was attentive. We did not feel rushed at all despite the late hour- just had to place our orders before the kitchen closed at 9:20pm (restaurant closes at 10). The food was fresh and delicious and we really enjoyed our impromptu date night. Can’t wait to come back! We got the chirashi bowl (beautifully presented), ocean roll, eel kamameshi rice, chirashi dinner, and soft shell crab.

This elegant sushi spot is a true gem serving everything from ultra-fresh sashimi to creative à la carte dishes—all packed with authentic Japanese flavor. 🍣 The sashimi was incredibly fresh, but the pizza sushi completely stole the show—crispy, flavorful, and unlike anything I’ve had before. If you're craving top-tier sushi without the Manhattan crowds, this is your sign. Save this spot—you’ll thank me later. 😉🫶

By far my favorite place to eat out in Bayside. Service: Excellent, attentive, staff is patient, knowledgeable, all very nice and seem happy to be there Food: Amazing flavor, wide variety of options that all taste amazing, high-quality down to the rice Atmosphere: Relaxed, calming music that is perfect volume for talking with whoever you’re with, plenty of seats at the bar, can also sit at tables or booths Shout out to Danielle the bartender, she makes the place fun! She’s very attentive and makes amazing drinks!! This is the first place I recommend to anyone looking for sushi/Japanese food in the area

Loved the Sweet Heart Roll — such a creative and delicious sushi! The fish was super fresh, and the atmosphere was cozy and perfect for date nights or hanging out with friends. Great service and convenient parking nearby. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in Bayside!

I dined here for an Omakase recently and loved every moment of it. The serving staff were super attentive. The chefs were so talented and incredibly friendly. They chit chatted with the diners and genuinely cared what we thought of the food. All of it tasted phenomenal. I regret not upgrading my omakase experience because the dishes I missed out on looked great too. Will return again very soon.
