I love this bookstore. It is the gold standard. Used books of every genre, beautiful printings of classics, and a modest selection of trinkets and other media. The prices are absolutely fair. Fiction paperbacks may be just a few dollars. The atmosphere is very inviting and cozy. And because they're just about the only book shop in the area, the stock is always rotating, so it's worth stopping in regularly. I hope they last a long time, as The Open Book is the last bastion of literary trading in the area.
Amazing book store. I used to go for their amazing occultist section. But they got me hooked on the first book of a series by putting it in the discount section(all discount books are a dollar! Buy 5, you get 5 free!), so now I'm on my way back for the rest of the series and that awesome baphomet statue I got a photo of. Y'all are doing a fantastic job and I adore this place. I go whenever I get the chance.
Ive been dwelling on this for a while and my boyfriend was saying I got undercutted so hard.. I exhanged like a few volumes of JJK, 2 Junji Ito books, maybe like 10-12 ish newer books like YA and horror (alot of stuff i saw was popular on good reads). I came in with around $100+ worth of BRAND NEW books like i just bought some of them the month of or 3 months before. The girl was super excited to see the Junji ito and held it for herself but they gave me $21 of store credit (I know they dont do cash). But like I read their policy and they do 10% of what they will sell the books for and how popular they are, I feel like i genuinely shouldve just kept them instead of getting $21 for over 25+ books. Its been gnawing at me and everyone ive told about it says the same thing: You got played. Wish I just kept them alot were hard cover which is like $15-20 depending on the author, they gave me 1 hard cover books worth of money for 25 books 😭 Also I drove like 20 minutes to this location because the one near me didnt want them, the girls were nice I just needed to get this out there. I know its a "thrift" shop but Im just sad about it. I looked up all the books i brought and the total i spent was $147 not including tax. I got most at Barnes & Noble & Target ,$21 close enough I forgot the name of the other junji ito book i brought in EDIT: Emailed and they emailed me back saying they only give $1 for hot sellers. I wasnt made aware or told how the buyback stuff works by the employees there and I was unfamiliar with The Open Book. Partially my fault for freezing and being too shy to decline. But I think letting customers know the exact amount and not percentages instead of not informing them of anything would be more helpful to people that ran into the same issue as me
Loved it. The clearance shelves are dangerous. Went for one book and walked out with 20.
I love this book store. They have good sales. Rotating inventory so I can come often and always find something new. The staff are all super friendly and helpful. They have a stamp program to earn a free book, or buy a reusable bag and get a percent off if you bring it in when you purchase books. They also have a mix of some new books - popular ones that I've seen online. Totally recommend checking this place out.
This place is a joke! Its now run by leftist activists and you will be greeted by an "ICE out, not welcome" signs at the front door. You sell overpriced used books that were donated... so stunning and brave! Give me a break. I use to love this place when it was the $5 dollar book store, they had great deals especially for comics and Manga. The other day I stopped by to see if I could find any older comics and Manga. They were selling Five Below Manga for $7 or more which is $5 at Five Below. You will find many examples like this throughout the store. The single comics are now a $1 each no matter what it is or the condition. They use to be .25 cents before. I ended up buying a book that was marked $4 and they charged me $7. While waiting to check out I was forced to listen to the two young women at the counter talk crap about their fellow employees and preach about girl-power nonsense. Ugh! What a shame and disappointment this book store has become. Needless to say I wont be coming back.
Wonderful second hand book shop. Everything is so well organised it makes browsing easy and enjoyable. And nicely set out, with a seating area and children’s corner, and plenty of choice in books and gifts.
