Thrifty Peanut

They have a huge selection of books for everyone, and the employees are really nice. That is the good part. However, the prices have gone way up over the last couple of years since we were last there. The first time, the prices were reasonable, like $1, $2, and $3 per book. This time, those same books were $6, $7, and $8. I think that's pretty expensive for used merchandise. The dvds and jigsaw puzzles are way overpriced in my opinion too. We have found that Facebook Marketplace is a much cheaper place to get those things. They do have a selection of $1 and $2 books on clearance it front, so you might find something interesting there. But if you're looking for something specific for cheaper than you can find new, you might check there.

It's a large used bookstore, with a partial upstairs. They have a whole room dedicated to history (most of which is US history, with a heavy focus on wars). If you're looking for science, philosophy, or even metaphysics/woo-woo stuff, they have a whopping 2 small, narrow bookshelves—they had more books on gardening! Romance and Western sections looked pretty large. They have a recommended reading section near the door; nothing that appeals to nerds like me. It's large, but that doesn't make up for a lack of quality. They only buy textbooks and books on college reading lists. And they support our troops. And they don't want you asking anyone who works at the bookstore about their vaccination and/or health status. I mention this because there are several signs stating such throughout the store, which I thought was a little odd. I'm sure this bookstore appeals to someone, and that someone is not me and probably not you if you're a nerd too.

Found one copy of a rare recommended spiritual book for half price! Give this place a visit. You’ll be pleasantly surprised. I promise!

This place is a TREASURE TROVE OF ALL KIND OF WONDERFUL MEDIA. My Only suggestion would be to update to computer systems. However, this Little Used Bookstore is deceiving on the exterior. It is Jam-packed to every nook and cranny with a Memerizing Ambience. Updating to digital would be quite the task for their staff. BUT SO LOVE THIS PLACE !

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I visited the store today as a regular customer, and was shocked by the behavior of the cashier. When another customer walked in and politely asked how she was doing, the cashier responded, "Good until now," clearly showing disdain toward the woman. It’s the day before Thanksgiving, and it’s incomprehensible that an employee would be so openly rude to anyone—especially in a bookstore, a place that should feel welcoming. This kind of attitude is unacceptable for customer service. The 1 star is for the abundance and variety of books.

Shipping is fast and well-packaged, so I never have to worry about damage in transit. As a long-time reader and collector, I can confidently say that The Thrifty Peanut is one of the best places to find affordable, high-quality used books. I’ll definitely be returning for more!

This is an amazing store. We do not visit Shreveport without stopping in for a look. The movie and book selection is incredible. The staff is very helpful and always accommodating. Stop in and browse, you will love it!
