Open Door Bookstore

This bookstore has a special place in my heart, my mom and I have bonded over our love of reading and this is our favorite shop. The people who work here are just so kind and welcoming, and it has an amazing selection for such a cozy little place. I'd recommend this gem from my hometown to anyone!

I dropped into the gifts part of my the store for small Christmas gifts and was able to find quite a few related to personal care, such as handmade goat's milk soap, various products for facials and skincare. They have a rewards program, which I joined and after spending $209, I was awarded $15.

Great store with a wide book selection, gift shop, and friendly and helpful staff. Located near some great restaurants and Proctors.

I really wish I could like this store. I love supporting local independent businesses. Almost every time I visit, there’s an issue. Often it’s them not allowing customers into the store 10 minutes or more before their posted closing time because the registers are closed. This time I made a special trip to use my earned reward. Paid for parking. Browsed and selected a book, was told my reward expired yesterday. There was nothing they could do. Seriously? A regular customer earns a large reward and no exception can be made? I explained that I would be a lost customer, obviously a frequent one because of the size of the reward I had earned. My family will no longer be able to support this business. Loyalty goes both ways. The owner really should allow for a small amount of flexibility for frequent and regular shoppers. I hope she sees this and considers it.

Schenectady is lucky to still have a community bookstore. The staff is incredibly friendly and very helpful. If they don't have it, they're very welling to order it. Treat yourself and visit Jay Street, grab a cup of coffee, browse a book, and support our local businesses.

I went in to browse and found some lovely books for my grandsons and a birthday card for my sister. What a large assortment of stunning items for almost everyone I know. Free membership that doesn't expire. Discounted items (including book shelves of them as well) from holidays and their book selection offers. Helpful, kind present people working there. It's downtown Schenectady so street parking. (Best to go on Sunday)
