Normally, I really enjoy visiting this Barnes & Noble because the staff are usually friendly and helpful. However, my experience on January 13, 2026, at around 4:30 p.m. was disappointing. The cashier at the register was extremely rude to me while being warm and welcoming to other customers. When I mentioned that the price for my purchase did not match the website and showed her my phone, she berated me, saying I should have told her at the beginning if the price was different. I explained that there was no way for me to know in advance that the register price would differ from the online price. She sighed and told me I needed to inform them next time. After completing the transaction, she simply left my books on the counter, stared at me, and only begrudgingly got me a bag when I asked for one. She didn’t say thank you or wish me a nice day, but she greeted the next couple enthusiastically and cheerfully. I left feeling unwelcome and disappointed, which is unusual for this location where I usually have great experiences. She was a heavyset lady with black hair, wearing a green shirt. I was nothing but nice even with the price difference. I was calm and collected. I don’t know why this employee decided to make this experience so unpleasant. I’ve never had this experience at any Barnes & Noble ever before. Simply, my presence seemed to bother her.
Here’s a polished 5-star review you can post: ⸻ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Great Spot to Relax and Refocus in the Heart of Sugarhouse I stopped in to Barnes & Noble in Sugarhouse to kill some time while my wife was next door at the Drybar. I was just looking for a quiet place to grab a coffee, but ended up pleasantly surprised by how relaxing and inviting this location was. The Starbucks café inside the store was great—Sophia made a perfect iced Americano and was super friendly and helpful. I found a seat by the window, which offered a peaceful view and just the right amount of quiet for reading and getting some work done. I also browsed the business section and found the staff to be helpful and knowledgeable. The store was clean, well-organized, and had a calm, welcoming vibe that’s hard to find in the middle of a city. Definitely a hidden gem if you’re looking to unplug, read, or get some focused work done. Highly recommend.
My absolute favorite bookstore and this location is my favorite of them all! Always clean, well-organized and full of great selections. Whether I’m browsing, reading or picking up a new favorite, it’s always a great experience here.
Interesting experience at this location yesterday. Coincidentally enough, my visit coincided with a field trip the psych ward was having there. Maniacal laughter and guffaws echoed throughout the store, while furries scurried about chattering as loud as their voices would allow. I quite enjoyed the rehearsed theatrical conversations regarding current fiction - the actors really knew how to project their voices to be heard at any location in the store. Didn't go in to purchase- just wanted to enjoy the show! Brava!! Brava!! Encore!!
Rise up! Rise up, my fellow book zealots, and demand that the Barnes & Noble overlords cease vacuuming the first hour of every day. Entering into a bookstore; the sanctum-sancctorium of The Written Word, we have a right not to be assaulted by the cyclonic slave machines as they snort and snuff across the loam of the land of books. So rise up, I say! Rise up and demand silence befitting The Realm of Books!
Great store, the staff were super helpful. Brought my son here to get his birthday book haul, and left super happy.
Nice bookstore at a very convenient location. Variety of books and toys for kids. Everybody seems to be chill here, definitely a good place to spend the afternoon here.
