The Avid Reader Bookstore

Nice little bookstore. I go there often. They have many mainstream books , along with a good assortment of classics and a little bit older stuff. With that they have journals and gifts. Candles, bookmarks, stickers and various knickknacks. They also have a pretty cool little kids section with a few games and posters and such. Only 4 stars = wish it was a little bigger. It gets often crowded inside.

I typically love going to Avid when I’m free. But recently I went with friends because I wanted to buy a cheap sudoku book, and I browsed the store for a bit and couldn’t find it in spots I thought it might be in. So I went to the front desk for help, and the guy who helped me was kind of rude. He showed me where it was (which was by the back near the kids’ section) and said something along the lines of "was that really that hard to find. It’s not that hidden" and i just felt so belittled and embarrassed in that moment. I’m not sure if that was his intent but idk, it just put me off from wanting to buy anything. I guess I could have looked harder, but I didn’t expect it to be by the kids area 🙁 most of the time my experience here is great, but again, this one instance kind of ruined it for me.

Love this place! Aside from a great selection of books, they also stock products from small businesses, so it's a great way to shop small, especially for the holidays <3

I will always appreciate having had the Avid Reader. Do note they take online orders and will order something for you if they don’t have it in store! This was really useful when I needed a few books for my classes. They also have cards and stationery and a quiet atmosphere for browsing. I’ve bought many great books here.

Very nice and understanding staff. Many options and genre of books, I enjoyed my time here and will be returning.

Lovely little bookstore in downtown Davis. It's so organized, and the selection is incredible. My favorite aspect of visiting is getting a Blind Date with a Book, and I'm always so excited to find out what it is. It's also a perfect place to pick up gifts like candles, stickers, and other novelty items as well.

There isn’t a better place to shop for everyone! Little gifts, souvenirs, planners, stickers, Knick-knacks, this place has it all! I love that it is an INDEPENDENT bookstore and they have a fine selection of children’s literature. I absolutely adore this store.
