Powells is the perfect book store. So many books, organized in clear sections and fun design. The staff is also very friendly. It’s great to still have a place to just walk in silence and browse books.
This is a smaller version of the downtown mega Powells store. But it’s not missing anything! Huge book selection plus gifts and goodies. They even have a station for used book buying although it was closed during my visit.
While not as large as Powell's downtown location, this store still impresses with its size and selection. You'll find a vast array of books across different genres, as well as cards, puzzles, games, toys, and more. They also carry Powell's branded merchandise, such as mugs and t-shirts, just like their downtown store. A big plus is the ample parking, which makes visiting much easier compared to the parking challenges downtown. They regularly host a variety of events, adding to the lively atmosphere. You can even bring in books to sell, making it a great spot for both browsing and trading.
This review is specific to Powell's book buy back program. We went on a Sunday at 2:00 to sell back about 25 books. We got there and there were roughly 15 people in line. Powell's only offers buy back time of Fri-Sun for a handful of hours. There were only two people working the counter while three other staff were just standing back, chatting with each other. We ended up leaving as the line was not moving. I miss the old days when you could go in any time and there were plenty of people to help. Powell's itself is a cool space, even in Beaverton.
Huge place! So many options. Everything you could want they probably have. Rare book center was a real treat.
I have gone to Powell's Burnside my whole life and was so pleased when Cedar Hills opened. An avid reader, Powell's has always been a special place to me. That remains true to this day. Stopped in while running errands to pick up a book I have been reading on Libby but really wanted the intended page breaks as well as having it available to read again and again. Someone else was in the poetry aisle and proceeded to ask me out, among various other questions but wouldn't accept no or direct disinterest. I don't know if it was because I was speaking loudly my disinterest and they heard me or divine intervention, but an employee appeared and remained in the aisle and I was able to get assistance from them and then leave with the book I wanted. So to that person (wearing a black mask, helped me find Inward by Yung Pueblo around 2:40pm on Labor day 2025) - whether you heard me from the other aisle or just felt like you needed to be in that aisle, I appreciate your presence and assistance! Honestly, those instincts to remain in the aisle with me was a solidarity and blessing and I hope the world repays you in kindness. If the other person from the aisle sees this - it is fine to shoot your shot (and an attempt at a meet-cute in the poetry section of Powell's) but no is a full sentence. Join a club, volunteer somewhere, don't make it weird.
Sadly I haven't been to a book store in a long time. And embarrassingly so I was in awe how big this place was and their selection. It was friendly and welcoming environment with so many sections and readily available content for all levels of readers. I was not only in disbelief but thoroughly impressed with this place. I am not an avid reader but if I was I would make this my place to go for my book purchase.
