Mama Africa Hair Braiding

The lady was very nice. They have very great customer service, however my braids were not done correctly. They are fat and it looked like she grab a bunch of gel to slick it down. After you could still see the gel. I showed a picture of how I wanted it. But it was not done correctly. They were so nice, but I don't think I'll be back. I wish she would've told me she wasn't comfortable with doing the style I had show.

I first came here and had my braids done by the owner, and she did an amazing job. The second time, the results weren’t quite the same, but what impressed me most was how the owner personally reached out and offered to redo my hair herself at no cost. The braids were professionally done and look amazing. I really admire her dedication and the way she went above and beyond to make sure I was happy. I’ll definitely be coming back, and I highly recommend others to come here too. The owner is very responsive to feedback and wants her clients to be happy

I called the day before to make an appointment. I have pretty thick and Longish 4c hair to my bra strap. I was hoping for earlier appointment but I was booked for 130. There is parking available but a small shared section thats shared maybe only 7 car spaces. I parked at the next residential street over in fronnof someone home and did not have any issues the my car. Pumba did my boho briads. She did an excellent job. I am so used to people complaining about my hair, wanting to add a density fee etc, saying they normally braid faster ext. I washed and dentagled my hair but she still had to blow dry it to get a few kinks out. I wouldn't say they are knotless more like Box braids there is no way I can put this in a ponytail first day its anchored down pretty close. I loved the curly boho style. I did not bring hair but I might next time is was 50 PER PACK for human hair and 25 for synthetic She was very patient and not rushed my braids are neat well done. I would recommend them and I would go back.

I booked my appointment in advance for July 3rd. I requested a stitch style they had posted on a summer sale flyer. She didn’t start my hair until 5:55pm my appointment was at 5. To be told she can’t use the braiding hair I brought charged me to use their hair, the style was not what I asked for, and not what was on the flyer. I reached out to the stylist to rectify and she never replied. I’ve come to this shop several times previously and I’m disappointed at this. Their services are already expensive as it is plus gratuity, I feel scammed. She’s replying to everyone else reviews and rectifying but has not reached out to me after I’ve communicated with her my dissatisfaction.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND! I gave this place 3 chances. Each time was somewhat a disappointment, never fully satisfied. The last one had me crying. I bought an expensive hair, paid $250 and they butchered it.. I left a message saying how disappointed I am, the lady I assume the owner called me back and said she’ll fix it. I went back and still didn’t look right. Never again! Don’t waste your time and money. It’s sad, I tried so hard to just forget it but I couldn’t stand the thought of someone else going through the same experience. Please do better. This is how they sent me home and after she ‘fixed’ it …and yes, I tipped the first one 🙄😢

2 stars because I was accepted as a walk in. I paid $250 for knotless boho twists and my style only lasted a little over 2 weeks. During the appt I asked the stylist to make all the twists knotless. The woman told me she didn’t speak English. Half of my head is knotless, the front isn’t. The knots have unraveled, a few have slipped. The curly (boho) hair is sticking up EVERY WHERE. The way my hair looks you would believe it was done a month ago. I reached out asking if I could have the perimeter redone. No reply. (3/5 Update)The front rows were redone.

July 9th (while getting my hair fixed) UPDATED: DO NOT RECOMMEND BRAIDS FELL OUT AS SOON AS I GOT TO MY HOTEL THAT NIGHT. BRAIDS FELL OUT EVERYDAY ONE FELL OUT DURING A PROFESSIONAL CAREER MEETING. Response Below disregarded what I shared and mentioned something like "We have plenty of styles that fit your budget" Now I was in my comfy clothes so maybe they judged me based on that, but I actually bring home well over six and a half figures. I wanted them to have told me for anything they were going to charge me BEFORE booking and in the least BEFORE servicing my crown. My braider never charges for take down and certainly not $100. How about being up front and letting me decide if I want to proceed. Just because I make 150k a year doesn't mean I don't budget. This my first negative review. 😞 ********************************* June 20 ⬇️ I would have given a five star as I am advocate for small businesses and love investing in them. But they were not communicative about pricing. Medium box braids should never be more than $200. I pay for everything done for $180 total. I understand in SF area it could be a bit more so $250 was the quote. They charged a tip without my consent and the overall price was $436. I had to find a way to put the non budgeted price on my credit card. I was charged $35 for a hair wash. That is steep! What's better? Charging a reasonable price and getting more clients or charging $400+ and losing them after 1 visit? Now the braids turned out good, uneven length but tight-maybe too tight and tender now but I'd rather have too tight instead of not tight enough. I hope they either communicate completely at the beginning before doing people's hair much how much its going to cost so clients can decide if they are willing to pay that kind of price. Like I said, I have a beautiful African braider who charges a fraction of that cost and will do hair wash for nothing. I would restructure your business model. If you're going to charge high prices-rebrand. Update costs online and additional services. Target the wealthy. If I become a superstar or win the lottery I'll be back. Hair shouldn't cost the same as a down payment on a car 🤣
