First time client after 14 years of being natural i got a texturizer to loosen my curls and got my hair cut into a layered bob the results are amazing I love my hair and the service I recieved from Kiara everyone is super nice that works there i will definitely be back
My appointment was at 1:30 the lady who was supposed to do my hair Brittany didn’t start till 1:40 washed my hair then kept me in a chair for an hr and half I wasn’t under a dryer or nothing she just wanted to finish her other clients hair that was after me. This was my first and last time coming I ended up leaving I have work at 4 told her that and she still kept me in the chair this is highly unacceptable I was so tired from waiting I fell asleep in my chair. I will never be coming here again i guess they only prioritize regulars because they treated a new customer very horrible
Came in for a trim and silk press. The stylist Nekeia gave me a knowledgeble assessment of my hair as well as information on how I can take care of it moving forward. She suggested a hydration treatment (steam) in a sdition to my styling and I was very happy with all of my services
Pros: It was a good vibe. The stylists were friendly overall and various clients and stylists seemed to know each other well. There were playful conversations and arguments and I enjoyed the music and just being surrounded by the culture. My stylist Kiara did a good job with my hair. She was gentle with combing my halfway natural hair and the products used at the salon are good for coily hair. Cons: 3 hours for a silk press: I didn't realize when I walked in the wait time would be equivalent to purgatory as we endure the cleansing of our sins in order to see the pearlie gates of heaven. On their website as with a lot of salons there is a wait time period disclaimer where the styling of another's hair could cause delays in your own appointment. Fine. I waited about an hour. What I was not ok with was the hour wait subsequent to my hair wash. After the stylist Kiara washed my hair she asked if I wanted a deep conditioner I said yes. She put the dryer on for probably 25 minutes. I finished and waited.. and waited... And waited.. when I finally found her she was finishing up an intricate braiding style of a child of another one of the employees at the salon. And just when I thought she was finished she started putting beads in her head. Overall, I had the conditioner in my head for over an hour because she squeezed in another client or person during my schedule appointment. Once her attention refocused to finishing my hair it was pretty quick. Pressure to cut hair: I am not the best caregiver of my hair and my previous hair dresser would just give me a small trim every so often which I was fine with. What I didn't know was that when I initially accepted the trim and then looking at the time (it was late) realized I didn't want any other frills just to finish the flat ironing Kiara tried to pressure me for it anyway. I said it was late and I'd do it next time. She told me I really needed it. She held up a chunk of my hair (which would've been a cut and not a trim) and said "the style will be wasted" and "I'm just trying to educate you" oh and my favorite " your excuses aren't valid". So I had to sit there pressured and belittled just to get my hair finished. I explained to her I understand her points but ultimately I'm not doing it. BTW Her whole mood had switched as a result of me saying no to a trim. Lack of professionalism: Throughout the entire experience I felt that I was not a priority or a focus for my own appointment. She didn't even let me know that she needed more time to finish someone's hair while my hair was conditioned under the dryer or at least politely told me that she was taking someone else during my appointment. Just to let someone know who's sitting there waiting AND who is a new customer you would think you would want to make a good impression. She stopped multiple times to do other things while flat ironing my hair. 1. Put grease in the child's hair who she just finished in between mine. 2. Stopped working while speaking to the inventory person that walked in. 3. Helped another stylist look for a product for the other stylist's client in the backroom for like 5 minutes. It's disrespectful to not prioritize your client's time. We already wait for them to finish other clients I don't know why I couldn't be shown minimal respect for my time. I paid and tipped her for her service (yes I could've not tipped her but she overall did a good job with my hair and I know this is people's livelihood). It's such a shame. I was so excited to tip in the beginning. But by the end of the evening I almost didn't even want to tip her for showing such unprofessionalism. My last favorite part of the night was when I was waiting for my ride and Kiara started talking about me with another stylist on the side of the wall (which wasn't enclosed) and why I didn't trim my hair. This is AFTER I still decided to fairly tip her for her work. I was angry, irritated, and disappointed. DO BETTER. Overall, I liked the place it was a good vibe and if I ever decide to come back I hope I can write a better review.
After doing my hair myself for decades I began to neglect, over process, and heat damage my hair. I looked for a natural black hair salon, read reviews and booked with Shear Essence. When I walked in the ambiance was very welcoming and my hair technician Janine did a wonderful job. Her knowledge was on point and her personality was amazing. Will definitely be going back to have them help me on my new hair journey.
We have been going here for 11 years and the stylists are professional and friendly. Feels like a second home. I highly recommend his place.
Short and simple. My hair was dry and needed a trim. Went in for a silk wrap and trim. Went home happy. My hair feels so much better and my confidence is back. Janen did an amazing job. You can tell she loves with she does. I will continue to go back.
