Katya should not be touching anyone’s hands for a living — and I’m saying that as someone who came in for the most basic, "can’t mess this up" service: a Russian gel removal. Somehow, she still managed to hurt a 17-year-old and then act like we were the problem for being upset about it. I called Brooklyn Beauty Lounge at 6:30 PM to ask if my younger sister (17) could get her Russian gel removed, because her usual nail tech wasn’t available. They scheduled us for 7:30 PM, knowing they close at 8 PM. So don’t take a late appointment if your staff is going to treat the client like an obstacle between them and going home. My sister arrived on time, was respectful, and asked for something simple: removal + shaping. Katya finished by 7:40 PM, and now I understand why — she wasn’t efficient, she was speed-running. She filed and handled her nails so aggressively that she cut up the skin around multiple nails. My sister’s fingers were stinging, with tiny bleeding spots — and yes, I have photos. My sister literally pulled her hand back and said it hurt, and Katya just kept going like she was filing a piece of wood, not a human being. When I went to the front desk to complain (because it’s not normal for a teen to leave a gel removal with cuts), Katya gets called over and immediately shows exactly what kind of person she is: eye-rolling, attitude, zero accountability. Not a single "sorry." Not even a fake "I didn’t mean to." Just defensiveness and blaming. And here’s what she didn’t realize: I understand Russian fluently. So I heard every excuse she tried to make up in real time — and it was honestly embarrassing how fast she kept changing the story: • First, she says it happened when she was clipping because the nails were "too long." • Then she claims it wasn’t from filing (even though my sister reacted to the pain). • Then she lands on, "It’s just how her nails grow." So which one is it? Because the only consistent thing was Katya doing mental gymnastics to avoid saying one sentence: "I’m sorry, I hurt her." It was excuse after excuse after excuse — all in Russian — then she switches to English to sprinkle in "genetics" and "your nails naturally grow like this" as if that magically makes it true. Also, the way she behaved while we were speaking to her was unbelievably unprofessional — talking under her breath, dismissive tone, rolling her eyes like we were being dramatic for not wanting my sister’s fingers cut up. Imagine being so comfortable disrespecting a client that you do it openly, in front of the front desk. And the cherry on top: she walked away mid-conversation like a child, before anything was resolved, and the front desk had to call her back again. That tells you everything you need to know about her professionalism: none. I understand wanting to go home on time. But you don’t get to accept a 7:30 PM appointment, rush the service, injure a 17-year-old, and then act offended that someone expects basic care and accountability. Front desk tried to de-escalate, and I appreciate that — but Katya was the problem from start to finish. This was my sister’s first time here, and it’ll be her last. And if you value your hands (or your sanity), avoid Katya specifically. UPDATE: The salon owner reached out to me directly, apologized on behalf of the salon and Katya, and offered to refund the service. I appreciate her professionalism and the fact that she tried to make the situation right after the fact. That said, I’m keeping this review (and rating) up because the issue was never about the money — it was about the actual service and experience my 17-year-old sister had in the moment: being cut during a basic removal, being dismissed, and then hearing multiple shifting excuses instead of accountability. I’m sharing this so others can make an informed decision, especially if you’re booking close to closing time — I strongly recommend requesting a different technician.

I got bangs and a blowout and style with Irina, and she was wonderful throughout the whole experience! Very good listener and did better with my hair than I envisioned. I have been growing my hair out for years and forgot just how nice it is to get shampooed, but I know how she did it was far superior to past experiences of mine. I will be back!

Brooklyn Beauty Lounge is such a great salon — everyone is friendly, professional, and they do beautiful work. I usually see Katya and she always does an amazing job, but the whole team is wonderful. Highly recommend!

If I could give zero stars I would. This place is absolutely ridiculous. The management is rude, they talk to their staff as if they’re stupid as I witnessed this first hand. I also witnessed a worker named Olya belittling the staff there. You can feel the tension as you arrive especially when workers talk to clients with attitude. Technicians are wonderful but some workers need to fix their attitude. Horrible environment and very disappointed. I would definitely not recommend this spot!!
