DO NOT GO HERE WITH TYPE 4 HAIR ! My experience at Jacqueline’s salon was genuinely one of the worst salon experiences I have ever had, and I want to be very clear and detailed so others do not go through what I went through. I called the salon around 10:30 AM to see if they had any same day appointments available for a wash, blow dry, and trim. The salon had just opened, so the owner told me I could come in. I was grateful because I wanted to refresh my hair and do some maintenance on my ends. I brought my own shampoo and deep conditioner because I take care of my natural hair and prefer products I know work for me. Once I was in the chair at the wash bowl, that is when the problems began. Within minutes, I noticed something moving on the wall in my peripheral vision. I tried to stay calm and ignore it, thinking maybe it was just a small bug. Then I saw another one crawling across the floor and I realized they were roaches. Not one, but two, within the first ten minutes. What disturbed me most was that the employees did not react at all. No one tried to kill them or acknowledge them. It was as if seeing roaches in the salon environment was completely normal. That told me everything I needed to know about the hygiene standards of the business. At this point I was uncomfortable and honestly scared because I am terrified of bugs, but I was already in the middle of getting my hair washed. The young woman washing my hair did use my products and she was gentle, so in that moment I pushed my discomfort aside. She placed me under the dryer for my deep conditioner and then began detangling my type 4 hair. Next I was placed in rollers and while I was sitting, another roach crawled along the side of the chair. At this point I was sitting as still and small as possible just praying nothing would touch me. I was extremely uncomfortable and my anxiety was high, but since I was already halfway through the service, I tried to endure it so I could just leave when it was finished. When it was time to blow dry my hair, the stylist commented that my hair was dry. Anyone with type 4 hair knows how often it is mislabeled by stylists who are unfamiliar with how to properly moisturize and stretch tightly coiled hair. My hair was not dry. It needed proper heat protectant and technique. Instead, she used Mielle almond oil, which is not a heat protectant. I had to explicitly ask her to use heat protectant before flat ironing my hair. Even when I asked, she did not apply it evenly or section by section. She just sprayed randomly and continued. She trimmed my hair and cut it into a bob. I accepted the cut because I acknowledged that I needed my ends trimmed and the press looked smooth when I left. I tried to put the entire uncomfortable experience behind me and continue my day. The real issue did not show itself until later. When I washed my hair a week later, I noticed a very strong odor. It did not smell like burned hair. It smelled like a chemical process had been done. It was a very distinct scent, similar to a texturizer or relaxer. I immediately realized something was wrong. When my hair began to revert, only some areas curled back. The rest remained straight and limp. This was not minor heat damage. This was deep, irreversible damage to my curl pattern. I have been natural for nine years and have never had my hair permanently altered by heat. It has now been three weeks and my hair is still struggling to return. Some parts are straight, some are puffy, and my curls are uneven and lifeless where the damage is most severe. I want to emphasize this for anyone with type 4 hair: this salon does not have the sanitary environment, the product knowledge, or the technique required to safely handle tightly coiled natural hair. The roaches, the lack of hygiene awareness, the lack of proper heat protectant use, and the dismissive handling of my hair all point to a complete absence of professional care. Below I showed my hair before the service, right after I received the service, when I first washed it, and what I currently have now.
When I say Jacqueline exceeded my expectations oh my she did her thing! You have to trust the process. She is very skilled and she explains everything through to you. There’s just a slight language barrier which I didn’t have a problem with. If u don’t understand she has no problem explaining or clarifying to you. She is very friendly n humble. I went from dark colored hair to blonde, and I am in love with it. It wasn’t an easy job, and I sat hours knowing that is apart of the process and she got it done and I couldn’t be more happier! I’m not very big on anyone touching my hair, but this woman knows what she’s doing and I trust her and I will be back!
Hello everyone. Yesterday May 16 2025 I went to Jacqueline's Dominican Style Beauty Salon and I have to say, I've never been treated so nicely the way i was being treated here.. I was there from 5pm-11pm. She took her time with my hair. We connected in a spiritual level. She made me feel very welcome and acknowledged. I told her I'd like to feel beautiful and she made me feel beautiful. This was my very 1st time going to a hair salon to do my hair and she made me want to continue going. Amazing people. Amazing work. She's patient, she makes sure every strip of hair is cared for and roots are good. I loved my experience. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I APPRECIATE YOU!
Hello, I went to get my highlights retouched and trimmed my ends. Jacqueline was phenomenal she communicated what she was going to do and explained every step of the process that she did. She exceeded my expectations and gave me the exact look i wanted. I would definitely recommend.
I WENT TO THIS SALON FOR THE FIRST TIME TODAY ON 8/17 & I'M GLAD I DID.. VERY FRIENDLY PPL, AND ABBY DID A DEEP CONDITIONER IN MY HAIR, A BLOW OUT, & STRAIGHTENER, HERE HANDS ARE MAGICAL.. SINCE I HAD JUST TAKEN MY HAIR OUT FROM WEARING BRAIDS FOR YEARS.. ABBY'S MOM JACQUELINE TRIMMED MY HAIR AND TALK TO ME ABOUT CONDITIONING MY ENDS MORE BECAUSE THEY ARE A BIT DRY, BUT THE REST OF MY HAIR IS GREAT.. GLAD FOR THE POINTERS AND ADVICE.. I DIDN'T HAVE NO APPT AND I WAS THERE FOR A FEW HOURS.. IF YOUR IN THE AREA I RECOMMEND YOU GO THERE.. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED.. I WILL GO BACK! THANK YOU SO MUCH.. I LOVE MY HAIR IT'S ABSOLUTELY HOW I WANTED IT & IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!
Most horrible service I have ever had! She was also very rude to a long time customer of hers and refused her service . She does not seem to care about her clientele, she is rude and have all kinds of people coming in and out of her salon I didn’t feel safe at all and she seemed racist. DO NOT GO
No words for the magic this woman pulls off. Once again she saved me. There was going to be chemical damage. Does olaplex treatments 3,4, and 5. Botox deep conditioning....and what would have been a disaster....led to me losing no hair at all! This woman is a miracle worker. Praise her. Praise God. Praise Shango.
