Big Y

If you live in Central Texas for any length of time, you become familiar with H-E-B. It's more than a grocery store, which in of itself is a noble thing. It's a cultural touchstone, a shibboleth, a ticket for a speakeasy. I moved up to New England a couple years ago. Though it's taken me most of that time, I've finally found a spiritual sibling to H-E-B, and that's Big Y. I don't yet know if Big Y has the same resonance in these parts as H-E-B does back home. I do know it's a clean, well stocked, and reasonably priced place to buy food. At this particular location is a deli, bakery, butcher, and fishmonger. The produce is ample and fresh. Shelf goods are varied and sensible. Dairy and frozen goods run the gamut. And the cosmetics and medical goods are solid. Basically I can show up here any time it's open, get most everything I need for a given week, and load up my car without fuss or worry. Prices are about as fair as they can be in this economy, and they're frequently plain good. Across the street is a gas station with consistently low prices, usually >10% less than anywhere else. My only complaint is I wish they were open a bit later, but that's more of an upper management thing, nothing on this location specifically.

Overall the store is pretty good. Extremely clean with the exception of the bathroom. The soap dispenser looks broken, but isn't broken. Causing too many people to not wash their hands. It's not wall mounted. Therefore, it's extremely awkward to use. The second complaint at this location is the deli. Almost 20 minutes to get served when it's 4 employees and 3 patrons. They talk too much, to the point of messing up orders. Keep the useless conversation in the break room. Too much of them being fake busy and weird conversations while customers are waiting. The wait times are laughable. And it's constant. Get your deli staples somewhere else, if you're short on time. All the pre-sliced are mostly in #1 portions. It's not as convenient as they think. But the quality of their deli products are top tier. That's why it's frustrating when they act as if they're doing you a favor. The pizza, sandwich, and sushi section employees are wonderful. Always extremely helpful. Always smiling and the foods would give any restaurant a run for its money. Baked good are tasty as well. Their attitudes...cold. The managers always speak and the cashiers are always really, really nice. Overall Big Y is quality and high standard. This location

I never write reviews but this place provides the best grocery shopping experience, primarily because the employees are so kind and friendly. Produce is fresh and selection is great!

Always good. Clean, orangnized and shelves are always full and the people that work there are professional and always helpful.

Great Store, Everything is delicious that is made in store kitchen. Best menu. Prices right.Bakery second to none. Cakes,rolls and breads are supurb.The Cafe is a great way to start off your day with a fresh brew of Green Mountain coffee and a fresh pastry or muffin.Try it! You'll like it!

The chicken nuggets are to die for I see all the ambulance crews going to town on those bad boys. Grade A chicken. Good job team.
