REI

I loved it! I was immediately greeted by an associate. Then the next three associates were all assisting customers, I first item I zoned in on was by a new brand(to R.E.I.), which I would love to have. I was approached by an associate asking if I needed assistance, I said not at the moment. However, after looking at their clearance racks, I decided I did have a couple questions. I found the same guy, I asked when do they put out their summer items for 2026, and also, what are the newest brands they carry. And he answered both questions. I did purchase something, guess what I bought? 🙂 I'll come back

REI is a must-visit in Midtown. The store is huge with a wide range of outdoor gear, and the shopping environment is very comfortable. Staff are friendly and professional, and the return process is simple and hassle-free. Definitely one of the best places in Alaska to shop for outdoor equipment.

REI is an interesting place where you can find just about everything you need to explore the great outdoors here in Alaska, it's not always the cheapest, you might order something online go to pick it up and discover that they don't have it ready for you and for some reason the order was canceled lol, They might have a perfect niche running shoe You never thought they'd have, and then other times you might have an employee come up to help you and then they just disappear without saying a word. It's strange and it feels like for the most part everybody who works there is very friendly and happy but also kind of just hanging out, I joked with my wife that I half expected them to give me a shirt when I walked in the store like I was supposed to work there for a few minutes. The inventory online they list I would say is definitely not accurate, so if you are looking for something specific they might just have it so you may have to make a trip in as even a phone call may not be enough. But all around a fantastic store despite its little weirdnesses.

Great location with lots of parking. The selection is great in the store and everything is in a convenient spot. The return policy is so great and they have a newly added kids section. I love the viouri section it is so nice and they have so many nice things.

I love REI in general, but today I asked an associate if they had flameless lighters and he didn’t even face me fully, said "no" incredibly abruptly, and didn’t look up anything. I ended up looking online, finding it, and looked around the store for like 20 minutes and eventually found it. He should speak with less confidence and offer to look something up if he is not sure.

Love REI! Went for a multi day hiking backpack. The associate who helped me was so patient and knowledgeable , helping me to adjust multiple packs and loading them with some weight so I could walk around the store to try them until I found my perfect fit. Our cashier was also amazing! She was so friendly and patient, answering all our questions. It's definitely one of my favorite stores!

This store is much bigger than what they used to be after the changes. Still overall a great store for outdoor equipment and supplies. Would often come here for camping equipment that has served me well and now looking for shoes for hiking and trail jogging. While looking, the staff has been very welcoming and helpful in finding shoe options for my needs and requirements. Despite the pricing, I would recommend going here for camping, running/hiking, biking, and other activity equipment.
