My husband and I took the Southern Brunch class at Baltimore Chef Shop Sunday and had such a great time. We made breakfast sausage, buttermilk biscuits, chicken fried steak, country cream gravy, crispy hash browns, sunny side up eggs, fruit salad, and Texas sheet cake and somehow it all came together into an incredibly delicious meal. Chef Ted was warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful throughout the class. At one point I was deep in ADHD overwhelm trying to keep up with the Texas sheet cake while everyone else seemed miles ahead, but Chef Ted and Madison (KA) stepped in, got me across the finish line and the cake turned out great!!!! The class was instructional and a little fast-paced in the best way. The two hours flew by!! It felt busy but never stressful, and sitting down to eat what we made together was the perfect payoff. 💜💜 Two thumbs (or forks?) way way up. Definitely recommend and would absolutely do another class!! We’re already talking with friends about booking a private group night.
Thank you, Chef Shop! Our team of event planners went to Chef Shop yesterday for our annual holiday outing. We had a wonderful time. Everyone was impressed by how organized and eficient things were. Chef Stephanie kept us moving around the kitchen with energy and comfort. Our "chefy" types were challenged and our novice cooks felt involved and I know learned a few great tips and tricks. The outcome was delicious and we're already talking about which class we want to do next year. Thank you again for hosting us and we can't wait to return.
Couples Cook: Thai Street Food First off, this isn’t a class. Don’t expect to learn. You’re handed a recipe and expected to execute it. You’ll get a tiny bit of help, but mostly after you’ve messed up. Our chef was half rude, half your boss, and not very nice. You don’t get to make all the recipes in the session you signed up for, you get to work with a group of five others to make them all. It felt like you were just trying to survive. Some of the recipes will be modified to make them less authentic and easier to do, which in theory is fine, but ultimately this is a place you cut veggies and boil noodles/pasta. The chef did not know the recipes being made. We spent a lot of time julienning carrots, as requested by the chef, only to find out they were just for the broth and later discarded. I don’t really think they do much well. They didn’t mention where to find utensils at the start. They don’t teach any techniques. The food was fine, not really impressive. Basically, picture printing off a recipe from allrecipes.com and being given the ingredients and dishes to do it and that’s it.
I've been to three classes at BCS. The California Brunch class and the Dim Sum class were wonderful. I learned a lot, had fun with other participants, and the outcome was delicious. Plus, I incorporated several of the recipes into my own repertoire. Chef David did a great job of helping students with their tasks and was patient and kind in the process. I particularly enjoyed those two day time classes. The one evening class I attended was challenging as participants at the front table spent more time drinking alcohol than they did cooking and learning... I will be sticking to daytime classes moving forward and have two more booked already!
My partner and I recently attended a couples cooking class in Baltimore, and it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the warm and welcoming staff who made us feel right at home. The kitchen space was modern, spacious, and equipped with everything we needed, which set a relaxed yet professional atmosphere for the class. Our instructor was exceptional! She had a great sense of humor and made cooking feel both accessible and fun. The class focused on preparing a Southern meal, and we were able to work alongside each other in creating dishes we had always wanted to try but didn’t know how to make—like mouthwatering fried chicken, corn pudding, greens, shrimp & grits, and strawberry shortcakes (homemade biscuits). Our lovely Chef guided us through each step, offering helpful tips and tricks along the way. What stood out the most was how interactive the class was. We weren’t just following along—we were encouraged to get hands-on and experiment, all while learning about flavor profiles, knife techniques, and presentation. It was a great opportunity for us to bond, share some laughs, and enjoy the process of creating something delicious together. Oh, I got to drink my red wine while preparing a good meal, too!
Chef Donny was wonderful teaching the vegetarian Greek cooking class. He shared tips for chopping and preparing for all the dishes. Baklava, couscous salad, moussaka, tzatziki, and pita bread were all delicious and easy to duplicate at home. The entire kitchen staff were very helpful and professional. I came from 6 hours away and will definitely return to this Baltimore jewel.
I came here with my team from work, and we had a blast! Chef Steph was a wonderful teacher/supervisor/cat herder and we can't wait to come back again!
