Gstar is a school of the arts for grades 6-12 with college-prep courses and one of the largest sound stations in SFl. The staff are pleasant, understanding, and will do whatever it takes to make sure your child is ready for the next grade. There is after-school care available and help with tutoring if your child needs it.
As a graduate of 2016, this school never ceases to amaze me. I could honestly say this school shaped me into who I am today. The students are super humble and crazy talented. The teachers make it their aim for students to succeed. The staff and faculty took their No Bullying Policy VERY seriously, and that meant the world for students like me because I knew I could come to school and actually make great friends. Most importantly, the allow you to be ORIGINALLY YOU and if I could do High School I would do it all over again at G-Start School of the Arts.
A great high school for movie making, theatre & animation. The super creative students are kind & accepting, & all are welcome. Teachers & faculty are equally talented & caring!
Taking my son out of his zoned public school, and putting him into Gstar was the biggest mistake I've made for his education. This school is made up of false expectations of smaller classrooms and more teachers help. FALSE EXPECTATIONS. My son has been begging for help the entire school year, just to be told his teachers are too busy to do so.
My son was expelled from this school along with another student due to an incident involving vapes. I acknowledge that what my son did was wrong; however, we are very concerned that the other student was allowed to return while my son was not. When we asked why this decision was made, Mr. Blake Crane responded that he could not provide us with information, only that our son would not be accepted back. This makes us feel there was unequal and discriminatory treatment, since our family is Hispanic and the other student is American. We believe all students deserve equal treatment and the same opportunities, especially when both were involved in the incident.
Some staff was decent enough but overall I would give this school a 1 out of 10 because my mental health was horribly ignored by almost every staff member, I was bullied online and in school and it was ignored, I was even threatened with being kicked out when I tried to defend myself from said bullying, certain departments do 100% pick favorite's amongst students, staff clearly picks favorites, and many talented students are not given space or their time to shine, school tends to ignore students with clear mental health problems and even punishes them when they try to ask for help. School ignores sexual assault and harassment that happens on campus and even tends to reward the perpetrator and punish the victim, classes are horribly crowded and some parts of the campus are run down, at one point some classrooms didn't have A/C for months. I am grateful for some of the friends I made here but other then that I believe I would have been better off not going to this school at all. Please protect your kids, don't send them here.
Hi! My name is Jasper and I am from the Class of 2025. I went to G-Star all four years of high school, and I wanted to give my honest and sincere opinion and review about this school. There are many great things about G-Star that stand out to me such as: The opportunities to immerse yourself in programs directly and hands on rather than these programs being choice programs, every class has art integrated into it and teachers are always making their classes fun and the halls vibrant, and there are always fun activities that G-Star does for students like field days with kona ice and field trips that are fun for students. The school was personally good for me as somebody who gets overwhelmed and really large situations, and it was small but not too small. I still got that high school experience, but it wasn’t too intense (until the 24-25 school year). Sometimes I do regret not going to a public high school but at times I realize that the small environment was good for me as a student rather than being in a school with 3000 students. As much as there is a lot of good things to say about the school, there are a lot of concerning things that need to be brought up and should not be covered up. For example: -I’ve noticed that G-Star tends to hire anybody, and there’s not as strong requirements as there should be for teachers. For example: a lot of teachers don’t have the degree for the class they are teaching and yet are still teaching it anyways for some odd reason. It makes it confusing for students to learn, and because of that irresponsible behavior to hire teachers who have no idea what they are doing it makes it harder for a student to succeed. -There’s been an extreme increase of pushing AI usage on students by teachers specifically in the film department. I think encouraging students to use ChatGPT at an art school is completely unnecessary and in my opinion is very unprofessional. And furthermore more, the fact that the school utilizes AI for social media trends when it is easy enough to get real students to draw for them is kind of denouncing the point of an art school as a whole. I love the film teachers in the film department, but I don’t agree or understand encouraging students to use ChatGPT for an assignment. If students know that they can’t do basic things and have no desire to learn, but put themselves in the situation of being in a program then that should be completely on them and it shouldn’t require teachers to encourage AI usage. -There’s been an increasing number of younger and younger subs getting hired and they are mistreating students. I’ve already reported one incident, but the school is pushing unrealistic expectations onto 23 year old adults and overworking them as well as not really checking who they’re hiring. My overall stance on G star school the arts is that if you want a simple yet hands-on school that focuses on art you should send your child to G star because there is no auditions and it really is an easier process. if I had to redo high school all over again and had the option to go here, I personally would choose not to come back. But that’s simply my opinion, and to each their own. I do wanna thank the school for giving me such important opportunities to advance in life and get the skills I need to do what I want with my passions and hobbies related to film. There were some major setbacks when it comes to this school, but in the end, I wouldn’t have grown as a person if I didn’t step foot in those doors in 2021.
