Portland Kinderschule German Immersion Co-op Preschool

We have been loving everything about this preschool - the teachers, the community, the amount of playing the kids get to do, it is all superb! My 3 year old son has been attending this school year and his confidence and social skills have improved so much in just a few short months. We are so excited for him to continue his journey at PKS!

I am not a German speaker but my wife’s family comes from Austria. Even though our kids don’t speak German at home, we decided early on to send them to a German immersion school so they would become more globally-minded from a young age. We chose PKS because of its small class-size, quality of teachers, and emphasis on community. We appreciate that the curriculum is play-based and includes a lot of nature play in addition to arts, crafts, and song/music. As an added bonus, the co-op model has allowed us to get to know and become friends with the other parents. It’s been a great transition from pandemic life to preschool life. Highly recommend!

Small class size, very good learning environment, caring teachers who know how to truly connect to the children, excellent adult:child ratio. Children are thriving in this environment and developing very well. The classroom is very spacious, and a large outside area with playground is attached. Plus, unlike at some other German schools, the majority of families speak at least some German at home (some also speak a lot), which is very beneficial to everyone in the classroom for German language development.

Wonderful school, great community, caring teachers. Would highly recommend to anyone seeking to foster a second language.

My children have been going here for about a year and they LOVE it! Great family-like environment that enables children to grow, exposes them to German traditions, and, of course, learn to speak German! Could not have made a better decision than Portland Kinderschule!
