The shopping itself is exactly what you expect in the US (cookie cutters of the same stores) but what I liked about this mall was; outdoorsy, proximity to the walk of fame and the great views to the Hollywood sign! What more could a girl ask for on there shopping afternoon!
Cool spot. Came super early. Took the subway. No one was here but me and my son. Its fun walking around with no one else here. Nothing was even open. I do come at normal times too. Its pretty busy. There is a Ben and Jerry, cvs, Victoria secret, Dave and Busters, nice shoe spot, ect.
Nice mall. huge lots of nice restaurants and fast food items. Parking is 20min -$2.50 and daily max is $20. if you get validation from one of the store in the mall then first 2-3 hours is $3only. validation pass is a purple color card with barcode that retailers will provide you once you buy anything (since your going to have something anyway). use that to pay. we were just unlikely that the validation pass didn't work in the machine (error) so we had to pay $12 for 2hr only. They have shop of "ben and jerry" with many nice flovours. was so happy to try it. mall is close to walk of fame (walkable) which is convenient
I've been visiting Ovation back when it was still called the Hollywood and Highland Center. Back then it used to have these amazing huge elephants on columns, but apparently, they were taken down because they referenced a filmmaker who was racist. If you didn't know the backstory, you'd never know. Now the plaza is rather plain. At least the bridges with views of the Hollywood sign are still there. When it's Oscar season, the shops are covered up with huge curtains and the red tiled grand staircase acts as a red carpet. My most recent visit was for the Chinese New Year celebrations. They had performers, a fashion show, and booths where you could do different things, like write down a wish and tie it up on a tree or get a special good luck red envelope that normally contains money, but in this case they stuffed them with coupons for a few of the nearby shops. The mall itself is a typical mall with stores you'd see anywhere else in the U.S., it's not crazy expensive like Rodeo Drive. The main difference is that the Chinese Movie Theater holds movie premieres and the Dolby Theater holds the Oscar Awards, so same, but not the same. I greatly appreciate the underground parking garage since parking is always an issue in L.A. and there are enough levels that if one level is full, you can just drive down to the next ones. I've had issues with paying for parking, though, everything from one of the machines not accepting my card only to find out I was charged twice, to paying a ridiculous amount because the event I went to at Dolby Theater wouldn't validate. My advice is to buy something, anything at one of the shops or restaurants so you can get that purple validation ticket. That way you'll pay $3 instead of an hour's worth of work or more, and make sure to put that purple ticket in first and then the regular white one. And no matter how many times I've been here, the zigzag directions for both the parking garage and escalators are disorienting, like why? Why not make it straightforward? Is the confusion on purpose to make us slow down? I've lost count of how many times I've been here and I'm sure that for one reason or another I'll be back because even though some parts of it are frustrating, for the most part it's good because of the special events it holds and the sheer energy of it being a tourist destination.
Witnessed a "street takeover" while there (which was wild), at 3:30pm on a Saturday. Surprised it lasted so long (over 30 minutes), without police coming to even break it up. That's L.A. life for you, I guess. 🤷🏽♂️ (...If something like this tried to happen in Times Square NY, it would be broken up in less than five minutes)
Great place to shop, dine, and explore in the heart of Hollywood! The mall has a good variety of stores and restaurants. You can also see the Hollywood Sign from here — it’s not very close, but worth it for pictures if you don’t have time to visit the sign itself.
Since 2001, formerly Hollywood & Highland, the 36,000 m2 shopping center with more than 70 shops & 25 restaurants also includes the TCL Chinese & Dolby Theatre.. The historic site was once the home of the famed Hollywood Hotel...
